Some Useful Home Hints – 03/26/2018

Perfect barbecued  Asparagus – When barbecuing asparagus, thread a wooden satay stir (soaked in water first) through the top and bottom of several pieces at a time, they are much easier to turn and won’t disappear through the gaps in the grill.

2. Dip your toes for a better sleep This I am not sure I would do but if it helps with sleep I am all for it – If you find it hard to sleep in the hot, humid weather especially if there is no air-conditioning, a bowl of iced water by the bed and cold  your feet in it when you are wakeful as it helps regulate the whole body temperature.

3. Prevent a clogged sealant cartridge – After using a sealant cartridge  plug the nozzle with blue tac and it will prevent drying out and clogging.

4. Prevent garden mould – To control sooty mould on gardenia and citrus, vigorously shake 250 ml vegetable oil and 60 ml dishwashing detergent in a screw top jar until white then use 2 tablespoons of the emulsion in a liter of water to spray your plants thoroughly. Good for pumpkin and cucumber plants I would say to stop that mould establishing itself.

5. Recycle the scoop – Recycle the plastic scoops that come in the laundry powder. This is great a measure to use in dry goods and dry pet food. Make sure you wash it well first though and leave it in the sun a while so it looses its perfume.

6. fashion tip – To remove gum from your clothes, cool the gum using an ice-cube then flick it off with a butter knife.

1. To tell if eggs are fresh, immerse them in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will lie on the bottom, while stale eggs will float to the surface.

2.. Sprinkle salt in the spaces between patio slabs and at the
bottom of walls to get rid of pesky weeds(but be careful
NOT to get salt near plants you want to keep as salt will kill them!)

46

3. To clean a wooden chopping board, sprinkle on a handful of
Kosher salt and rub with half a lemon. Rinse with clean water
and dry to ensure it is clean and germ-free.

48

4. Use ice-cubes to lift out indentations made by furniture on your carpets.

49

5. Prevent soil from escaping through the holes in the base of flowerpots by lining with large coffee filters

55

6. To stop the annoying sound of a dripping tap, tie a piece of string around the
faucet which is long enough to reach down to the sink. You probably should fix it though.

1. Excellent idea. Will tell my Mother about it as she is always complaining about her wine being watered down by the ice cubes.

2. Place a wooden spoon over a pan to stop the water from boiling over. This is so good as I am always putting something to boil on the stove, work on my computer then forget about it and end up with a mess because I had forgotten about it

3. Genius.

3. Wrap rubber bands around the ends of a coat hanger to prevent dresses from slipping off.

4. Yet another use for drinks can ring-pulls! Use to create a hanging loop for picture frames by screwing into the back.
