Scary and Exhilarating at the Same Time

What an experience.

PART OF THE POD: A New Zealand woman says she was swimming by herself when she was suddenly joined by three friendly killer whales.

Although the woman says she was scared at first, the orcas peacefully swam alongside her in what she describes as a life-changing experience.

3.You need to  read the Ingredients of Sunscreens

Chemicals to avoid like Retinyl palmitate, a type of vitamin A found in many SPF products can speed skin Tumor growth. Oxybenzone, a chemical found in many sunscreens is not only bad for your skin it has been found to be killing coral reefs and other sea creatures. Because of sunscreen used while swimming the Oxybenzone harms the DNA of both adult coral and larval young.

Sunscreen chemicals interact with sunlight to hamper the growth of phytoplankton, causing the death of whales, fish and other species that rely on tiny plants for food.

Benjamin Franklin invented flippers for swimming in the year 1717 and was inducted into the international swimming hall of fame for the invention. They were originally wooden swim fins shaped like a lily pad and went on the hands. They were about 10 inches (250mm) long and 6 inches (150mm) wide and helped people to swim faster. Franklin’s swim fins were originally intended for use on a person’s hands. Shaped like lily pads or an artist’s paint palette, they helped attain greater speed with each stroke.

Poem Friday – 08/24/2012 – Water, I Just Love It

Water, I Just Love It
By Lesley Voth

I think I have spoken of this before
I love water, mind and body it does restore

I drink it to rehydrate
That need for it, in the heat, without it I hate

Such a good soothing and pleasant feeling
Supposed to help you be calm and qualities of healing

The ocean, Just to sit and watch it just be
Sometimes rough, smooth, crashing waves to see

The feel of the water when swimming, diving under
supporting your body, floating, your mind full of wonder

Bathing and showering that is another thing
Just love it, the song in you, it does bring

When it rains it brings life to the soil
Too much of course, brings destruction and spoil

I have swum in it, canoed on it, all things fun
fished, played, surfed, skied, tubed, lay by it in the sun

Wherever there is water it gives me great pleasure
Memories with grandkids and all that I treasure

But never take water, ever for granted
Because shortage of it can make life as we know it very disenchanted

Somethings I Tire of, lose interest and quit
It will never be Water, I just love it

Keep Calm – Take To Water

These are very interesting statistics.
I for one have a great love for water, I drink it, I love to live by it, I love to hear it, I love swimming in it, I love bathing in it, I love paddling on it, and one time when my life seemed very dark I believe the ocean kept me sane and of great comfort. I would sit on the beach and just feel it, watch it for hours.

I don’t know who wrote these words but they are well said.

8 Ways to Beat The Heat

I know the last week has been very hot almost everywhere. New York I believe was 102 yesterday which is unusual for that city.

The Kids are on vacation and sitting inside the house out of the heat is probably no fun for them. Here are some suggestions about where you could go, and entertain them out of the heat. The cost to go to most of these places is usually reasonable. If you indulge in the junk food then it becomes rather expensive so I feel you need to explain to the children before you go that you will not be indulging in the junk food pass-time, so they understand before they go.

All these places are air-conditioned and cool places to go. Actually some of them are too cool so suggest you take a warmer jacket or cardigan to put on in case you cool off too much.

1. Bowling: I love this and we always have fun. The kids usually have a ball, and a lot of bowling places have quite a bit of entertainment for the children. Lots of junk food of course but you can always avoid that by taking some sandwiches and juice. The kids probably screw their noses up at that but my words are: Be thankful that you are here and enjoy, if you moan about not being able to have chips or junk food, then we will go home and you can do chores. I call it tough love.

2. Swimming: Usually there is a public swimming pool in your area. If you have a membership at the fitness center or country club, they have indoor pools so make the most of them. Its great fun for the kids and you can do a few laps for exercise.

3. Visit a Museum: During the holidays the museums usually have entertainment for the children. I love our city museum it is so interesting and fun for the kids. If you have no kids then go and check your museum out as there is so much to see.

4. Roller skating: I am not very good at it but love it. Indoor roller-skating rinks are great place for lots of laughs and fun with the family.

5. Ice Skating: Very cool, and a great place to avoid the heat. Once again kids have so much fun, ice skating. Lots of fun and laughter for the whole family.

6. Go to the Gym: Well this is probably not so much for kids but it is great for your own social activities. If you go regularly you probably have a social circle that you chat with and enjoy the company of.

7. Indoor Tennis: Once again another fun place to go for the family. Most Country clubs have indoor tennis courts that will charge a small fee (hopefully small) to play on their courts. Most Country clubs are struggling financially these days and welcome the public for a fee.

8. Indoor Go Karting: I am not sure if every town has an indoor Go Karting track, but if it has it is a great place to go. Kids always have fun
