Did You Know – 12/13/2017

  1. In 1904 a magazine advertisement, ran by the Cooper Underwear Company, started advertising the T-shirt not as an underwear item, but as a regular piece of clothing. The ad showed a masculine guy wearing the product, which had the following tag line: “no safety pins, no buttons, no needle, no thread”. The purpose of the ad was to show the clothing item in a new light. The company wanted to re-brand the product and to market it as a comfortable piece of clothing that doesn’t require the replacement of any buttons. The T-shirt was, thus, marketed to bachelors, who had no women around to sew back the ripped buttons on their shirts.

2.   Eating cheese in moderation is linked to a lower chance of developing heart disease or having a stroke

3.  A one dog year is not equal to 7 human years. Dogs don’t age parallel to people, they actually age more quickly at first, then slow down. Depending on their size and breed, a 1-year-old dog is about the same as a 15-year-old person a 2-year-old dog is like a 24-year-old person and every year after that is equal to about 4-6 human years

5. As of the third quarter of 2017, Facebook had 2.07 billion monthly active users. In the third quarter of 2012, the number of active Facebook users had surpassed 1 billion, making it the first social network ever to do so. Active users are those which have logged in to Facebook during the last 30 days.

Eggs do Not Cause a Heart Attack! – But Sugar Does

unknown

More than 70 percent of Americans consume 10 percent of their daily calories from sugar. And about 10 percent of Americans consume one in every four of their calories from sugar.
We’ve been told to swap eggs for cereal. But that recommendation is dead wrong. In fact, it’s very likely that this bad advice has killed millions of Americans.

Eggs are among the few foods that I would classify as “superfoods.” They are loaded with nutrients, some of which are rare in the modern diet.
A study showed that your risk of heart attacks doubles if sugar makes up 20 percent of your calories.
So eat up your eggs!
In one study showed, 2 eggs per day for 6 weeks increased HDL levels (Good cholesterol) by 10%

Here are 10 reasons you should be eating eggs every day.

1. Eggs Are Incredibly Nutritious
2. Eggs Are High in Cholesterol, But They Don’t Adversely Affect Blood Cholesterol
3. Eggs Raise HDL (The “Good”) Cholesterol
4. Eggs Contain Choline – an Important Nutrient That Most People Don’t Get Enough of
5. Eggs Turn LDL Cholesterol From Small, Dense to Large, Linked to a Reduced Risk of Heart Disease
6. Eggs Contain Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Antioxidants That Have Major Benefits For Eye Health
7. In the Case of Omega-3 or Pastured Eggs, They Lower Triglycerides as Well
8. Eggs Are High in Quality Protein, With All The Essential Amino Acids in The Right Ratios
9. Eggs do NOT Raise Your Risk of Heart Disease and May Reduce The Risk of Stroke
10. Eggs Are Highly Fulfilling and Tend to Make You Eat Fewer Calories, Helping You to Lose Weight

Bottom Line: Egg consumption consistently leads to elevated levels of HDL (the “good”) cholesterol, which is linked to a reduced risk of many diseases.

Stroke Has A New Indicator

6598_279546742178325_1033720128_n

Source – Health Digest
I URGE ALL  TO READ & SHARE THIS; YOU COULD SAVE A LOVED ONES LIFE BY KNOWING THIS SIMPLE INFORMATION!!!

Stroke has a new indicator! They say if you forward this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along? Blood Clots/Stroke – They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall – she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) …she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane’s husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital – (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don’t die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke…totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
>>RECOGNIZING A STROKE<<

Thank God for the sense to remember the ‘3’ steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. Chicken Soup)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke ——– Stick out Your Tongue

Ask the person to ‘stick’ out his tongue. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

Survive Crisis No 6 – You Are Alone

You have suddenly become nauseated, dizzy and weak. Don’t wait around and self diagnose. Is it a Stroke, Heart Attack, Vertigo? You cannot tell. If you think you are going to faint or blackout sit down so that you don’t hurt yourself if you fall.

0Vtb52j

a. Call 911 or the emergency number of the country you are in. (I think personally it should be the same number world-wide). Because this is not the case when you travel always take note of what the emergency number is in that country as you never know when you need it.

Unlock your front door. If you are fainting get on the floor and if possible call verbally for help.

b. If this happens while drivingPull over to the side of the road and put on your  flashers. Call 911 and do not get out of the car as you may get knocked over by a passing vehicle.

c. Emergency responder instructionsThey will often place you in what they call ‘Recovery Position’ which is protection from hurting yourself if you become unconscious.

Arrange yourself in this position by lying on your side with your bottom arm extended out from your body. Bend your top arm 90 degrees and drape your top wrist over your bottom elbow. Drape your top leg over your bottom leg.

Organizing your limbs in this way will prevent your body from rolling into another position .

d. Extra ProtectionIf you have a chronic condition it pays to always keep your cell phone handy. Another protection for speedy attention,  have your blood group written down or on an ID necklace  or any drug that you may be allergic to. It could save your life.

Wrap Rage – Package Overkill

vacuum forming 1

How many times a week do we bring things home only to find that the packaging is impossible to open without a sharp knife, pair of scissors or you just tear at the thing with frustration. I mean I bought a brush the other day it basically had impenetrable packaging and when I did get it open finally it was tied down with wire ties. I mean ridiculous.

What is it all about, it is not going to stop someone stealing the brush, it’s not breakable, it is not going to leak poison so what is the story with all this waste of time environmentally ‘unfriendly’ packaging. The ones I hate most are these child proof screw tops. I mean I have to go find my glasses, which is a challenge at anytime and match the arrows on the lid and bottle before I can extract my headache pill because it is impossible for me to see without my glasses.

From electronics, batteries , DVD’s to milk cartons, jam tops, I mean you need to be a body builder with strong wrists to get some of those jam tops off. It drives me crazy. In my opinion it is a waste of time and energy and actually puts me off buying some articles and bottled produce.

The hard plastic seal is called “Clamshell” packaging in the industry, apparently it is a cheap way to package, it is efficient , protects the merchandise and for the shopkeeper the packaging sits nicely for display on the shelves. For us,the consumer ‘Narda’, no advantage at all.

Another negative side to all this suck and seal products is the injury that it can cause.

In the US, one survey shows that 6,400 people were treated in emergency for injuries caused by opening this “Clamshell” packaging. I am sure there is a lot more

Another survey done in New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia  by catalyst Research  surveyed 500 people and found that 100% of them had injured themselves trying to open packaging.

What do we reach for when we cannot open the package? Of course scissors, kitchen knife, or something as useless as a fork, screw driver, saw, and, yes it has been known – angle grinder  and invariably what ever we us the chances are it slips and we stab ourselves. Many of us end up with chipped tooth because we have tried ripping a package open with our teeth. We have ended up with a bruise because our hand has slipped and we have smashed our hand on the table or wall. Broken a nail or in my case thrown it at someone and bruised them.

This packaging overkill has got to stop. It is possible, apparently in 2008 Amazon.com unveiled a Frustration-free packaging range and had great success with it. The packaging was recyclable and free from that hard plastic killer stuff and no wire ties.

‘Arthritis Australia’ recently implemented a review process which has provided recommendations on fixing accessibility issues with over 100 products.

Some one like my Mother, would not have a hope in hell opening some of these products. Number one she has arthritis and also suffered a minor stroke, plus she is 95, so her ability to open a lot of these products is especially limited.

So next time you buy something and the packaging is a challenge look for the Toll free  number and give them a call and complain. In some cases refuse to buy the product again. If enough of us complain they may take another look at their packaging and develop a product that is easier to access and not such a health hazard.

Having trouble opening that metal lid on a glass jar:

1. Run the jar under hot water

2. Turn the jar upside down and slam the lid down on a hard surface, till it surrenders

3. Turn the jar upside down and soak in hot water for a few minutes.

4. Throw it away

How Much Water Do We Need To Drink??

I received this email today and thought I would pass it on to you. I see it has no specific source but it makes sense to me and am going to try this out because I find it hard to swallow 8 glasses of water a day and think this is a more practical way to consume water.

I have read many articles that say we do not have to drink as much water as most nutritionists and trainers, will tell you. In fact my old nutritionist of yester years ‘Adele Davis’ use to say it flushes all the good vitamins out of ones body. That sounds real to me.

Anyway 6 or 7 glasses a day spread over time is doable for me so will give it a go and see if it makes a difference.

This is the email word for word –

When a doctor was asked why do people urinate so much at night-time. The answer from a Cardiologist was; –  Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright. When you lie down and the lower body (legs and other limbs) seeks level with the kidneys it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. You need minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body.

Correct time to drink water …very important according to cardiac specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:

2 Glasses of water after waking up – helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 min before a meal – helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed – avoids stroke or heart attack.

Water at bedtime will also help prevent night-time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up.

You may have some opinion on this, if you do I would love to hear it.
