Did You Know – 11/28/2016

methuselah-date-plant

  1. Judean Date Palm was miraculously brought back to life following the chance discovery of seeds in the 2,000-year-old ruins of Masada, the male date palm tree named Methuselah, the only one of his kind, has become a father.

For thousands of years, the date palm was a staple crop in the Kingdom of Judea, as it was a source of food, shelter and shade.  Thick forests of the palms towering up to 80 feet and spreading for 7 miles covered the Jordan River valley from the Sea of Galilee in the north to the shores of the Dead Sea in the south.

So valued was the tree that it became a recognized as a symbol of good fortune in Judea.  It is chronicled in the Bible, Quran and ancient literature for its diverse powers, from an aphrodisiac to a contraceptive, and as a cure for a wide range of diseases including cancer, malaria and toothache.

2. Raynaud’s disease is a condition that turns your fingers white or blue when you are cold. Your body overreact to cold temperatures and restricts blood flow to the extremities. Apparently smaller arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas

sign-of-over-exercising

3. According to studies too much exercise is not healthy. Your body’s Homeostasis (regulators that keep the composition of the extracellular fluids constant) collapses when you over do exercise. Moderation is important. Stress on the body produces large amounts of free radicals that causes stress like sore or strained muscles. So overdoing exercise has no health benefits.  Source: The Enzyme Factor. (Excellent book – worth getting)

4. Water the giver of life – Our bodies are composed of nearly 90 percent waters using pure water for drinking and bathing is essential to our health. More than 700 pollutants most of them carcinogens often found in drinking water from municipal sources and rural wells. The exposure to our skin is significant and goes unrecognized as a health threat . Filtered water is the safest way to go. It can be a little pricy but it is the only way to give your family the highest quality water.

5. I know it’s almost winter here in the States but it will be summer sometime somewhere and there will be bugs and mosquitos. Now as you know repellents contain dangerous chemicals. It has been shown that prescription drugs in you system can combine with other compounds such as what you put on your skin and can cause brain cell death and other neurotic reactions including seizures. A natural substance which I use daily in my oil burner (it is also called Indian oil of verbena) is a great choice to keep the bugs away. You will find it at your health food store.

Day 15 – 22 Pushups – 22 Days – Awareness of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Day 15 – 22 Pushups – 22 Days – Awareness of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Today Dave took this video in front of the Trump Office in Rosenberg. Yes, this is who I believe will make a great President for this Country of United States Of America. As I say “If you don’t do different nothing will change” and if you vote for Hillary you are voting for more of the same or worse.  You may not like him but I believe he will be the change America needs. Also good for the Veterans. Obama has had 8 years to make a difference for the Vets and it did not happen. Just saying.

_hz

The reason for 22 days and 22 pushups is the recognition and awareness of proven statistical evidence that there are at least 22 veterans commit suicide each day in the United States Of America and a growing number in Australia. There has been 274 suicides in Australia since 1999.

For most of us, we can not comprehend the trauma that they experience and how tolerant and supportive we must be for those who fight for our freedoms. It is not only tragic for our vets it is certainly heartbreaking for the families of these young men and women.
Today I nominate
Jesse Terrell to take the challenge.

No pressure . If you can great, if not that’s ok too.

But once you accept, you start tomorrow. The rules are simple:
* Once you are nominated your 22 days starts the following day.
* Every day you record yourself doing 22 push ups, try your best to reach 22. If that means doing assisted push ups (from your knees) or you have to stop and take a break, that is fine but try to get them all done in one video.
* Every day the push-ups must be in a different location.
* Every day you just nominate a different person.
* And finally have fun with this!
This a great way to have fun and let these courageous Men and Women who put their life on the line and those suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) know that someone is thinking about them.

Day 8 –  22 Pushups – 22 Days – Awareness of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

It seems the video operator cut my head out of the picture, but thats ok you can see that its me. I guess the excitement of the Texans winning  the game against the Chicago team and a couple of bottles of ‘Prosecco’ his judgement was not very focused. Plus I did 24 pushups and not 22.

11 States Where $1 Goes the Farthest

1470840624524

This is a report from USA today which I thought quite interesting. Note Texas is not mentioned.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis, which published in July its report for 2014 prices for household consumption across the country. Your dollar will go a lot farther — 30% farther, in fact — in states like Mississippi and Arkansas THAN say Washington, D.C., and Hawaii.
This of course is 2 years ago, there may be a few changes but basically it gives you an idea of where it would be cheaper to live. If you want to move.

The states where your dollar (rounded to the nearest cent) is worth the most are:

1. Mississippi ($1.15)

2. Arkansas ($1.14)

3. Alabama ($1.14)

4. South Dakota ($1.14)

5. Kentucky ($1.13)

6. West Virginia ($1.12)

7. Ohio ($1.12)

8. Missouri ($1.12)

9. Oklahoma ($1.11)

10. Tennessee ($1.11)

11. Iowa ($1.11)

The cost of living in 35 states was below the national average.
The areas where your dollar is worth the least are the District of Columbia (85 cents), Hawaii (86 cents), New York (86 cents), New Jersey (87 cents), and California (89 cents).

Trip To The Tail Of The Dragon

l3maavflbcm0gtrfrgpe

Last week I rode my Harley with my riding buddies Bob and Dave, to the “Tail Of The Dragon”. For those who do not know what or where it is, it is an 11 mile road with 318 corners and travels through Tennessee and North Carolina.
We rode 2,281 miles From Houston to the “Tail” and back. On leaving and returning to the Houston area it literally pissed down with rain, the rest of the trip was steaming hot, one needed to cover up from the heat of the sun but it was gorgeous. Because of all the rain the trees and pastures were a brilliant green.
The States we passed through were Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina and Tennessee. This means I have done most of the States in USA only a few to go.
The roads in this country are so great for riding. (Take note Aust and NZ, they know how to build roads here). The scenery magnificent, different in every State.

Back to the “Tail”. I have to tell you I was shaking in my boots after doing the 318 turns, I bet my normally very low blood pressure was sky rocketing, but on the way back the 318 turns did not seem quite so daunting. 636 corner tally. After the “Tail” the ride back to Murphy included another 200 or more turns but less stressful in my opinion.

Here is a graphic picture of the “Tail Of The Dragon”

I had to have a cigar before I headed off.

Unfortunately my bike was making funny noises at this stage so when I got back to Houston I had to take it to the Harley shop for repair. Like a big repair hopefully I get it back in a couple of days.

It was a great trip and look forward to doing it again and all the other rides in the area.
Thank you Bob and Dave.

Found A Deal With Ting.com – Save On Phone Charges

I am always looking for a deal – found one. Well someone told us about it so I checked it out.

phonehysteria-296x300

A phone company called ‘Ting‘. Best thing since sliced bread I believe. Only available for those in the States though (Sorry Aussie’s you are stuck with those uncompetitive, unco-operative phone companies and paying through the nose). We anticipate that we will save $50 a month at least, and we were already on a discounted program. The nice thing about it, you pay for what you use and you can go on the website and check up on your usage at anytime. (I know some companies offer this as well)

This is not one of those money making sales pitches.  The only benefit  is it does offer the usual ‘refer a friend’ and if someone joins you do get $50 off your phone bill. It is only a ‘one off’ thing.

We had a small problem in changing over and received instant help from someone who spoke the English we are used to (like from our own country – being USA).

If you are interested in saving on your phone bills it is worth checking out and compare with the company you are dealing with at the present moment. Better in your pocket than theirs.

Make sure you click on this link because it is worth $25 off a device or $25 in Ting credit to you when you sign up.
