Amazing Stuff is Epsom Salts For Your Garden

 

Just read this article and am off to the store to get some epsom salts. Reason being have just planted tomatoes and other plants and since it has done nothing but rain I am sure they need some of this magnesium in the form of Epsom salts.

Here are the 15 ways to use Epsom Salts in your garden.

  1. Great for peppers tomatoes, eggplants and potatoes:  Apparently it is great for improving the yield plus the flavor. It is recommended adding 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of Epsom salt to your peppers and tomatoes by sprinkling it around the base of the plant. If you want it to dilute quicker add it to 3.8 litres of water and do this every two weeks.
  2. Rid pests: Epsom salt won’t make snails and slugs wither away like table salt but it will keep them at bay. Use the 1 tablespoon to 3.8 liters but know that it is water-soluble so needs to be done often.
  3. Makes fruit sweeter: when added to trees, bushes and vines that produce fruit, boosts the chlorophyll inside the plant. Thus more energy and more energy produces more sugar. So sweeter the fruit it is.
  4. Helps stop transplant shock: Transplant shock is something that happens mostly when you are a bit rough planting the seedlings. Epsom salts is something that will help the plant overcome this.  To help prevent this you can sprinkle some epsom salts around the base of the plant once in the ground or you can put a few crystals in the hole where the plant is intended. Cover the salts with a little dirt before you put the plant in the hole.
  5. Keep the leaves green: If your plants leaves are going a little yellow usually it means it needs magnesium.  Feed your plants 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of the mineral per 12 inches (30 cm) of height one time a month.
  6. Kill the weeds: You can kill weeds by mixing a couple of cups of the mineral with a gallon (3.8 liters) of vinegar and some liquid dish detergent. Put it in a spray bottle and spray your weeds but keeping in mind to keep it off your plants or it will kill them too.
  7. Makes lawn nice and lush: If your lawn is a bit yellow chances are it needs magnesium. To perk up grass, Best Plants suggests adding 3 pounds (1.35 kg) of Epsom salt to every 1,250 square feet (116 square meters) of grass and then watering your lawn.
  8. Rots tree stumps: It is recommended drilling holes into the stump and filling in the holes with Epsom salt. In weeks, the stump will begin rotting.
  9. Blooming Roses: Adding Epsom salt to rose bushes encourages them to produce larger flowers with darker, deeper colors. To incorporate Epsom salt to your rose bush’s diet, add it at the time of planting and when flowers are in bloom.
  10. Removes splinters: Soak the area that has the splinter in it in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Epsom salt and water. That should make the splinter pop out of your skin on its own.
  11. Fights Frizzle Top: Palm trees suffer from what they call “Frizzle Top”. This can be rid of by spraying magnesium to the top and base of the palm tree.
  12. Cure for curly leaf: If your plant has curly leaf  a tablespoon of epsom salts should cure that.
  13. Potted Plant health: Because potted plants usually lack magnesium more so than those planted in the ground it is recommended to add a tablespoon (30mls) once a month to the surrounding soil.
  14. Increase nutrient takeup: Epsom salts helps the plants absorb other nutrients more efficiently. By adding plain Epsom salt, you won’t have to bother with so much fertilizer.
  15. Increase the health of ferns: Epsom salt helps ferns and plants similar to ferns, such as elephant ear, have rich, dark foliage. Add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of Epsom salt to a gallon (3.8 liters) of water and spray ferns and elephant ears to achieve the look.

Thought for Today – Stop and Smell The Roses ❤️

Remember that old saying “Stop and smell the Roses”. The way we are using technology these days we are not looking around at our surroundings. Was on the tram in Melbourne yesterday and noticed not one of those around me were looking at anything but their phones. I guess they may have done that trip many times but you know, each day something different happens – they miss it. Don’t see it.

We should all try at least once a day or once a week,” Stop and smell the roses”.
Just sayin.

A la sainte terre – Saunterers

I thought with everything moving so fast these days we should all learn to saunter through life and smell the roses. Look around and realize the beauty around us.

Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them.”

1. Hookworm larvae are to be injected into coeliacs in bid to treat gluten intolerance

James Cook University Australia, doctors John Croese and Paul Giacomin hope to find a drug derived from the parasites to treat gluten intolerance.
The larvae are put under a bandage, they burrow into the patients’ skin to make their way into their intestines.Hookworms do not breed within the human body so there is no chance of the parasite multiplying to dangerous numbers.
Results: Some Participant in the trial ate pizza for the first time in 15 years.
The future of worm therapy is likely to involve the manufacture of synthetic versions of these worm proteins in the laboratory in the hope that eventually they could become a pill-based medication to treat a variety of inflammatory diseases, including coeliac disease.

2. That you can grow roses from cuttingsSimply cut healthy stems, place them in large potatoes, and them bury them 3-4 inches deep in a healthy soil mixture of peet moss and top soil. The potatoes keep the stems moist and help develop the root systems. It’s a perfectly simple way to multiply your rose garden without spending lots of time and money.

Rose Shaped Baked Apple Dessert

This looks bloody delicious. I am going to have it for desert this week.

Made with lots of soft and delicious apple slices, wrapped in sweet and crispy puff pastry

Ingredients: to make 6 roses
1 frozen puff pastry sheet, thawed
2 red organic apples ( red delicious)
half lemon, juice
1 tablespoon of flour, to sprinkle the counter
3 tablespoons of apricot preserve
cinnamon (optional)
powder sugar for decorating (optional)

Preparation time: 45 minutes
Directions:
1. Thaw the puff pastry if you haven’t done so yet. It should take 20-30 minutes.
2. Prepare a bowl with some water and the lemon juice. Cut the apples in half, remove the core and cut the apples in paper thin slices, as shown in my picture. Leave the peel so it will give the red color to your roses. Right away, place the sliced apples in the bowl with lemon and water, so that they won’t change color.

3. Microwave the apples in the bowl, for about 3 minutes, to make them slightly softer.
4. Unwrap the puff pastry oven a clean and lightly floured counter. Using a rolling pin stretch the dough a little, trying to keep it in a rectangular shape. Cut the dough in 6 strips.
5. In a bowl, place three tablespoons of apricot preserve with two tablespoons of water. Microwave for about one minute, so that the preserve will be easier to spread. Spread the preserve on the dough.
6. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Drain the apples.
7. Place the apples on the dough, as shown in my picture. Sprinkle with cinnamon if you’d like.

8. Fold up the bottom part of the dough.
9. Carefully roll, seal the edge, and place in a muffin cup.

10. Do the same for all 6 roses. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 40-45 minutes, until fully cooked. Sprinkle with powder sugar.

Looks fabulous worth the try and very impressive to guests I should imagine
