Thought for Today – Stop and Smell The Roses ❤️

Remember that old saying “Stop and smell the Roses”. The way we are using technology these days we are not looking around at our surroundings. Was on the tram in Melbourne yesterday and noticed not one of those around me were looking at anything but their phones. I guess they may have done that trip many times but you know, each day something different happens – they miss it. Don’t see it.

We should all try at least once a day or once a week,” Stop and smell the roses”.
Just sayin.

“If you don’t do different, nothing will change”

2. If you want to remember someones name – Associate their name with their job. When you first meet them ask them what is their occupation. It gives you something to associate their name with and a better chance of remembering it.

3. Orca’s brains have an enlarged limbic node, which deals with emotions and memories. Even taking into account the size difference of a human brain, an orca’s brain contains more of the spindle cells that process empathy and social patterns. This result could be evidence that Killer whales could be more empathetic than we humans. I guess if you meet one in the ocean one would like to think this is true.

Alex Stafie, 5, and Wallace Scherer, 92, make sack lunches for the homeless during an activity at Providence Mount St. Vincent home for older adults in West Seattle.

4. At the  Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle there is a pre school inside a nursing home.  “We wanted a living, vibrant community; to make sure that this was a place where people came to live, not die,” says Charlene Boyd, an administrator at the center. Bringing children in was a natural solution.

Socializing across generations has also been shown to increase the amount of smiling and conversation among older adults, according to one Japanese study from 2013.

These intergenerational interactions also enhance children’s social and personal development as many of the parents will attest. kids are prone to feel more comfortable around those with disabilities and impairments of all kinds than their peers who lack such experiences.

5. Tulips are not native to the Netherlands – Tulips had been cultivated in Turkish gardens for years and there were over a thousand types of tulips by the time Europe discovered the flower.  In the late 16th century tulips were brought to Europe by the Austrian ambassador to Turkey, then known as Constantinople.  From Austria tulips made their way to the Netherlands where the Dutch became leaders in producing prized specimens.

By the 1630’s tulip speculation, or tulipmania, was rampant throughout the Netherlands and both rich and poor were speculating in the tulip trade, similar to the stock market in modern times.  In 1637 the tulip market crashed leaving many Dutch penniless.

Despite the crash the Dutch continued to cultivate these colorful flowers and the Netherlands still remains the chief source for tulip bulbs.

10 Life-Changing Reasons To Drink More Water

10 Life-Changing Reasons To Drink More Water

Has it occurred to you today that you are thirsty? Guess what – by the time you experience the sensation of the thirst, you are already dehydrated. That thirst is your body calling for re-hydration.

So, really, what does this mean? Why should we drink more water?

Fitness, Health, Training, water, hydration, dehydration, circulation, medicine. Your body is composed of roughly 60% water. That means when we are dehydrated – and most of us spend our days constantly dehydrated to some degree – we are affecting the performance of the majority of our body. Nearly all of our systems do not function as well without the proper water intake.

1. If you don’t drink water, you will die.
It’s that important. Depending on our environment, we can live only a few days without water – maybe a week. We can live much longer without food. For most of us, we should prioritize the consumption of water far more than we currently do.

2. Help Prevent cancer.
Yes, that’s right – various research says staying hydrated can reduce risk of colon cancer by 45%(5), bladder cancer by 50%(6), and possibly reduce breast cancer risk as well.

3. Be less cranky.
Research says dehydration can affect your mood and make you grumpy and confused.(3) Think clearer and be happier by drinking more water.

4. Perform better.
Proper hydration contributes to increased athletic performance. Water composes 75% of our muscle tissue!(4) Dehydration can lead to weakness, fatigue, dizziness, and electrolyte imbalance.

5. Help Lose weight.
Sometimes we think we are hungry when actually we are thirsty. Our body just starts turning on all the alarms when we ignore it. For those of you trying to drop some pounds, staying hydrated can serve as an appetite suppressant and help with weight loss.

6. Have less joint pain.
Drinking water can reduce pain in your joints by keeping the cartilage soft and hydrated. This is actually how glucosamine helps reduce joint pain, by aiding in cartilage’s absorption of water.

7. Flush out waste and bacteria.
Our digestive system needs water to function properly. Waste is flushed out in the form of urine and sweat. If we don’t drink water, we don’t flush out waste and it collects in our body causing a myriad of problems. Also combined with fiber, water can cure constipation.

8. Help Prevent headaches.
Sometimes headaches can be caused by dehydration. So drinking water can help prevent or alleviate that nasty head pain. Next time your head hurts, try drinking water.

9.Help Make your skin glow.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body. Regular and plentiful water consumption can improve the color and texture of your skin by keeping it building new cells properly. Drinking water also helps the skin do its job of regulating the body’s temperature through sweating. I personally use a spray of beauty water from my Kangen Water machine. I keep it in my purse and use it often during the day. The result of this is that I have found my sun-damaged skin has improved immensely  and I have got rid of what I call the barnacles on my skin.

10. Feed your body.
Water is essential for the proper circulation of nutrients in the body. Water serves as the body’s transportation system and when we are dehydrated things just can’t get around as well.

Quick rules of thumb for drinking water:
• Drink half your body weight in ounces of water (if you weigh 160lbs, drink 80oz of water each day).
•Carry a bottle everywhere with you as a reminder to keep drinking.
•Eat raw fruits and vegetables – they are dense in water. You can get water from food, not just from beverages.
•Drink water and other fluids until you urinate frequently and with a light color.

1. Anybody that takes Vitamin C should avoid the following Soft drinks: Sunkist, Fanta, Diet Coke, Sprite, & Pepsi Max.
These drinks contain Sodium Benzoate 211 on the label. A chemical reaction between Vitamin C and Sodium Benzoate creates Benzine a highly carcinogenic chemical.
Benzine has the ability to severely damage the DNA in the Mitochondria to the point that it totally inactivates it, knocks it out altogether. The Mitochondria consumes Oxygen to give you energy, and if you damage it, then the cell starts to malfunction very seriously, often fatally, a whole array of Diseases has been tied to the damage to the DNA, including Parkinson’s Disease and quite a lot of neurodegenerative Diseases. 2. Dogs can remember things that happen when they were not paying attention. New evidence suggests that like humans, dogs have episodic memory which lets you remember specific events from your life by absorbing them as they occur, even when they don’t seem relevant. This trait is linked to self-awareness, and scientists used to think it only evolved in primates.

“Dogs probably pay more attention to us than we think and observe us more than we think,”  explained by the lead author Claudia Fugazza, an ethnologist at the University of Eotvos Lorand in Budapest.

Your brain is wired to respond to music, even when you are not really listening to it. A recent study showed that even when highly focused and distracted by another task, Peoples pupils dilated in reaction to patterns of strong and weak beat omissions, suggesting we have an inherent sense for expectation of rhythm.

Hippopotamuses are considered to be the most dangerous animals in Africa. Though they are herbivores, hippos are aggressively territorial and kill thousands of humans every year because despite weighing nearly 10,000 pounds a hippo can run 19 mph – almost twice the speed of an average human

How To Remember Someones Name

I-Forgot-to-Remember

Now this is good to know because I am so bad at this. I so like to remember peoples names that I have met and embarrassed when I don’t.

Here is a few handy hints.

When you meet someone new at a party mostly their name just slips from your mind.

There is usually no harm in asking them to repeat it and these tips will ensure you won’t need to.

1. When you first hear their name, repeat it. Use it in a question or check you’ve got it right. saying it out loud early on will help you commit it to memory.

2. Experts say a good trick is to make a verbal or visual association. Picture the persons name written on their forehead, or use a rhyme (Big-shot Scott) or alliteration (slurring Scott) to make it memorable.

3. The key factor is your attitude. The main reason we forget a name is because we’re distracted, or not actually very interested in learning it. So if you make a conscious decision to try and remember someone’s name, chances are you will.

4. Another way of finding out someones name,(Use this method many times)  that you have forgotten  is always say to your friends  that if you don’t introduce them to someone  its because you cannot remember their name.

I tell my friends to say ” My name is ……….. you need to excuse my friends manners and yours is?”

Thats a win win as you get to find out their name without having to embarrassingly ask them.  You should know and your friend will not get annoyed with you thinking they are not important enough to be introduced to that person.
