Gift Idea Wednesday – 09/23/2015 – A Must Have

I have two Christmas gift ideas this time.

Enjoy

  1. Now this idea is brilliant and is a must have!

For those of you that have amazing eye sight this is not for you. On the other hand I bet you know someone who would just love you for ever with this gift. It will always be on hand, (as long as you don’t leave your iPhone at home like I do half the time). it will not take up space in your purse or handbag and you can get any strength you like.
Now these are glasses that you are not going to have perched on your nose all day, they are what i call convenient glasses.
I am a label reader so when I go to the store I usually have to fossick in my handbag and get my glasses so I can read a label. Well most of the time I will always know where my phone is and know my glasses are attached.
Anyway take a look at the video as I am sure it will convince you that these are a must have. I love mine.

Rose Shaped Baked Apple Dessert

This looks bloody delicious. I am going to have it for desert this week.

Made with lots of soft and delicious apple slices, wrapped in sweet and crispy puff pastry

2015-03-13+119+p

Ingredients: to make 6 roses
1 frozen puff pastry sheet, thawed
2 red organic apples ( red delicious)
half lemon, juice
1 tablespoon of flour, to sprinkle the counter
3 tablespoons of apricot preserve
cinnamon (optional)
powder sugar for decorating (optional)

Preparation time: 45 minutes
Directions:
1. Thaw the puff pastry if you haven’t done so yet. It should take 20-30 minutes.
2. Prepare a bowl with some water and the lemon juice. Cut the apples in half, remove the core and cut the apples in paper thin slices, as shown in my picture. Leave the peel so it will give the red color to your roses. Right away, place the sliced apples in the bowl with lemon and water, so that they won’t change color.

3. Microwave the apples in the bowl, for about 3 minutes, to make them slightly softer.
4. Unwrap the puff pastry oven a clean and lightly floured counter. Using a rolling pin stretch the dough a little, trying to keep it in a rectangular shape. Cut the dough in 6 strips.
5. In a bowl, place three tablespoons of apricot preserve with two tablespoons of water. Microwave for about one minute, so that the preserve will be easier to spread. Spread the preserve on the dough.
6. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Drain the apples.
7. Place the apples on the dough, as shown in my picture. Sprinkle with cinnamon if you’d like.

8. Fold up the bottom part of the dough.

10. Do the same for all 6 roses. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 40-45 minutes, until fully cooked. Sprinkle with powder sugar.

Looks fabulous worth the try and very impressive to guests I should imagine

Did You Know – 06/30/2014

14

1. Hang onions in cut-up tights or old stockings to make them last for months!

15

2. Create a thrifty watering can by puncturing holes in the top of a used milk bottle.

19

3. Cover paint trays with aluminum foil to make cleaning up afterwards a breeze. Now this is a good one especially for people like me that gets paint everywhere and I hate cleaning those trays.

24

4. Water straight from the tap becomes cloudy when frozen. To make ice cubes crystal clear, allow a kettle of boiled water to cool slightly and use this to fill your ice-cube trays.

25

5. Use a large muffin tin to cook stuffed peppers in the oven – it will help keep them upright.

27

6. To prevent potatoes budding, add an apple in the bag. New to me and a good one.

Meatloaf In A Muffin Pan – Brilliant!

This is brilliant. Great way to make an impressive dinner  presentation. I find when I make a meatloaf , if I don’t get the ingredients right [which is often as I never follow a recipe]  it kinda crumbles a little, so when I saw this I thought what a perfect way to present meatloaf and maybe decorate it with mashed potatoes, peas, asparagus or what ever takes your fancy.

I have also suggested to my grandson that in the weekend he makes some up and put them in the freezer so that when he comes back hungry from school or surfing he can Zap them up in the microwave or oven and have a healthy protein snack.

Ingredients

1 2/3 to 1 3/4 pounds ground sirloin
1 medium onion, cut into chunks
2 ribs celery from the heart of the stalk, cut into 2-inch pieces
1 green bell pepper
1 large egg plus a splash of milk, beaten
1 cup plain bread crumbs
2 tablespoons grill seasoning (recommended: Montreal Steak Seasoning by McCormick)
1 cup smoky barbecue sauce
1/2 cup tomato salsa
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Vegetable oil or extra-virgin olive oil

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Put ground beef into a big bowl. Put onion and celery into a food processor. Cut the bell pepper in half, rip out the seeds and throw them into your garbage bowl. Cut the pepper into a few pieces and add to the food processor. Pulse the processor blades to finely chop the vegetables into very small pieces then add them to the meat bowl. Add egg, beaten with milk, bread crumbs and grill seasoning to the bowl. Next, mix together the smoky barbecue sauce, the salsa and the Worcestershire sauce. Pour half the sauce mixture into the bowl with the meatloaf mix. Mix the meatloaf together with your hands. Wash up. Brush a 12-muffin tin (1/2-cup each) with vegetable oil or extra-virgin olive oil. Use an ice cream scoop to help you fill meat into a each tin. Top each meat loaf with a spoonful of extra sauce. Bake about 20 minutes. Cut open 1 muffin to test that the middle is cooked through

Clever Tips The Last 4

This is a great idea. I was thinking more for savory fillings like meat and or cheese, egg and bacon.

Turn your muffin pan upside down, bake cookie-dough over the top and voila, you have cookie bowls for fruit or ice-cream.

This is also good for insect bites or stings.

Freeze Aloe Vera in ice-cube trays for soothing sunburn relief.

Create a window-box veggie patch using guttering.

Use egg cartons to separate and store your Christmas decorations.
