Is Sparkling Water Good For you?

The sale of Sparking water in the USA has risen 42% since 2011 according to statistics done in 2016. Sparkling water can be natural or man-made. Of course Natural is the better alternative, like sparkling mineral water which is naturally carbonated and contains minerals and straight from the source. Not all Sparkling mineral water is naturally sparkling so some companies add Carbon dioxide to give it bubbles.

Seltzer Water vs. Club Soda – Choose neither – sparkling water you absolutely want to stay away from is one that contains artificial flavors, colors and/or additives. That is those healthy looking mineral drinks like Orange, lime, grapefruit etc.
Club soda contains sodium, but seltzer is typically sodium-free. If you have a health problem with salt the Club Soda is not the one for you.

Natural Sparkling Water Benefits

Doctors recommend  non-sparkling (Kangen of course in my opinion ) water over sparkling, but sparkling water definitely wins over high-sugar soda and juices. Sparkling water  lowers the pH of water, making it more acidic, and one of the things that causes dental erosion.

pH of flavored sparkling waters is concerning.  Carbonating of water lowers its pH to around a 5.

This I find rather interesting. Researchers have found that the sensation we experience when we drink a carbonated beverage like sparkling water is due to a reaction that occurs inside our mouths that changes carbon dioxide bubbles into irritating carbonic acid. So that exhilarating “bite” of carbonation is actually chemical rather than physical.

Basically the end the recommendation is opting for regular water with ph of 8 – 9.5 the vast majority of the time or using natural flavors like lemon, cucumber or waterelon. Those natural infusions also helps to create a higher pH level.

Small Savings – Big Fortune

1. Hire a Haggler – Companies such as BillFixers and Shrinkabill will haggle with your cable TV company or other service providers for one-third to half of your first year savings. BillFixers claims it saves clients an average of $300 per year.

2. Become a YouTube handy man – I have friends that use this all the time. The video’s show you how to fix the latch spring on your microwave door and that cold save you $150. It can be used for many household repairs. How and when to plant trees and that could save you killing your very expensive tree. (I have been known to do this).

3. Take a Driving class – Some insurers can offer up to 15% off for older drivers who take an online safety course – that’s up to  $675 over three years on a typical policy. Drive-Safely is one of the online sites

Did You Know – 01/03/2017

First Did You Know for the Year

  1. Bruce Springsteen said he  is afraid of the Trump Presidency,  he also said when President Reagan was elected that he was very afraid. I guess he is a very afraid Democrat. (He has got nothing to be afraid of.)

2. A rigorously done new study shows that those with the highest sugar intake had a four-fold increase in their risk of heart attacks compared to those with the lowest intakes. That’s 400 percent! Just one 20-ounce soda increases your risk of a heart attack by about 30 percent.

3. If you see this label
screen-shot-2017-01-03-at-12-49-13-pm

a.  A four-digit code beginning with a 3 or a 4 means the produce is probably conventionally grown. The last digits of the code represent the kind of the fruit or vegetable you are buying. For example, bananas are always labeled with the code of 4011.

b.  If there are five numbers, and the first is “8″, then the product is genetically modified. The label on genetically modified banana (GE-genetically engineered of GMO) would contain the numbers 84011.

c.  A five-digit number that starts with a 9 means the item is organic. Organic bananas are labeled with 94011.

EWG ( The Environmental Working Group) analyzed pesticide residue testing data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration to come up with rankings for these popular fresh produce items.
The Environmental Protection Agency warns that the consumption of pesticides can lead to health problems such as “birth defects, nerve damage, cancer, and other effects that might occur over a long period of time.” Children are especially at risk of harm from pesticides.

Did You Know -01/11/2016

  1. The level of melanin in your iris controls eye colour. Brown eyes contain more melanin (a dark pigment in the iris), while blue eyes have less. This enables blue collagen to show through. It is interesting enough to note that if you have blue eyes, you share a common ancestor with every other blue-eyed individual on earth. The first ever blue-eyed person lived sometime between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago. Before him, everybody had brown eyes.

These are just some of the amazing facts there are about the eyes which should give you enough reason to be thankful for them.

2. In 1977 a 37 year old man named Jerry Ehman was a voluntary researcher for Ohio State University’s now defunct Big Ear radio observatory. It was here that a giant telescope was scanning the skies on August 15. In those days, any information was processed through an IBM 1130 mainframe computer, printed onto some perforated paper and then examined by hand. It was by doing this that Ehman spotted something extraordinary – a vertical column with the alphanumerical sequence: ‘6EQUJ5’. Ehman grabbed a red pen and circled the sequence. In the margin he simply wrote ‘Wow!’.

More than three decades later, the Wow Signal is still the first and best potential evidence of communication with extra-terrestrials and it also remains one of the biggest mysteries in science. Over the years, Ehman and his colleagues have worked to rule out potential candidates of what the signal could’ve been sent from – such as satellites, aircrafts or ground-based transmitters on Earth. Although this is the case, it still hasn’t been proved the signal came from ‘aliens’.

The Wow Signal is one big open question.

3. A dog’s love towards his family is unconditional, and a classic example of this is the story of Hachiko, an Akita dog who was born in 1923 in Japan. He was adopted by an agricultural professor who took him home and took on the role as his new owner. Both of them formed a very special bond.

During their time together, the professor would take a train ride home each working day and be greeted by Hachiko at the train station. Hachiko would sit and wait for the professor at the end of each working day, without fail.

one day the professor suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage (brain bleed), and passed away, never to return to the train station again where his beloved companion was waiting.

For the next nine years, Hachiko attracted the attention of many people far and wide as each day, without fail, he would visit the train station as normal and wait for his owner.

Hachiko passed away in 1935, aged 11 years

5. Mephobia – Fear of becoming so awesome that the human race can’t handle it and everybody dies.

The phobia does indeed exist and there have been a few reported cases of people having it – though many more claim to have it!

Feels Like Tears From Heaven

Bourbon Run 2010 at Four Roses Distillery

“Feels Like Tears From Heaven”

Once again I have been made very aware
The ‘Power Of Now’, when you are in presence of someone you care

You are not to know that your time with them will be the last
Be present, observe your time because each minute could be the past

We have no idea whats ahead and is a blessing
I did not know the sorrow and heartache that I would be addressing

We lost our good friend Tom on Wednesday the 19th at twilight
The medics tried to save him, they fought for hours but lost the fight

Riding home on his motorbike a car turned in front
Happened so quick, could not stop and he took the brunt

He was a gentle man, quiet, methodical, generous in all ways
We all will miss him and his loved ones will have many empty days

IMG_0224

He, for those who did not know him had the clearest blue eye stare
We have had some fun, with a few shots of Patrón , I have even known him to fall off a chair

Recognize Tom with his white cap that never blows off, it makes us laugh
Always tied to his handle bars he has a head band scarf

Tom has ridden with us many thousands of miles
The more he rides the bigger his smiles

As I ride out the gate each day on my Motorbike
I say a small prayer, easy one that I like

‘My dear Angels keep me safe don’t let me fall’
Now I know there is one more, Tom to answer the call

I am going to be safe like the rest of us will be
Cause he will be there around us in spirit, though you won’t see

Lord we will miss him, his walk, his smile, for us it was way too soon
Hugs, his hospitality, to watch him dance with his love to a romantic tune

He just loved to ride but it came to and end that night
The Lord had a different idea, and his might is right

It was his time that night, he did not make it home by the time of seven.
It rained hard next day, when the words came from his friend to me “They feel like tears from heaven’.

Love you Tom

The End Of A Career

Screen Shot 2015-08-19 at 8.44.06 AM

Paulo Saraiva
This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Álvaro Múnera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer – because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”

This picture as pointed out to me is not the end of Torrero Munera career. Nor is it his quote. I went to slopes to confirm. If you like to go to the link below it will fill you in on the details. Thank you Snopes and Mr Steven Moon.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/people/munera.asp#G3D0Ob3gvsXUw544.99.

The posture shown in the photograph is not one of a torero collapsing or expressing contrition; rather, it’s a common posture of (defiance), a bit of showmanship in which the torero indicates his total domination of the bull by taking up what appears to be a dangerous position in front of the animal’s horns. (Also, the quotation that accompanies the photograph was not spoken by Múnera; it is the work of Spanish writer Antonio Gala, who was not himself a torero.)
