Small Savings – Big Fortune

  1. Some Grease and grime on hands – Usually a tub of hand cleaner is around $10 . You can use a teaspoon of cooking oil and some sugar , it works equally well. Some say a teaspoon of peanut butter (❤️ peanut butter so a waste in my eyes). That is a $10 save

2. The carrier on top of your car – Remove it when possible. It can reduce gas mileage by 25%. That is a three gallon waste per fill up or about $8 in gas.

It is thought that adding it to a ritual bath will break spells and hexes and has often been used to ward off evil spirits in the home. Because it resembles celery in odor and appearance, angelica sometimes is known as wild celery. Alternative medicine practitioners say Angelica is a good herbal tea to take for colic, gas, indigestion, hepatitis, and heartburn. It is useful to add in remedies for afflictions of the respiratory system, as well as liver problems and digestive difficulties.

4. I did not know this about Bamboo – Interesting

Flowers of bamboo are rarely seen. Some species of bamboo develop flowers after 65 or 120 years. Interesting fact about flowering is that all plants of one bamboo species develop flowers at the same time, no matter where they are located in the world.Bamboo releases 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere and absorbs more carbon dioxide compared to other plants. Because of these features, bamboo greatly decreases amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and cleans the air.

5. Blue cohosh, also known as squaw root or papoose root, was used by Native American women to ensure an easy labor and childbirth. According to an article on ancient birth control methods, Midwives today may use blue cohosh in the last month of pregnancy to tone the uterus in preparation for labour. The completely unrelated but similarly named black cohosh also has estrogenic and abortifacient properties and was often combined with blue cohosh to terminate a pregnancy.

???????????????????????????????????????????

You probably already know this but some  don’t. Research by European Journal of Applied Physiology shows that a hard workout can be salve for achy joints. It has shown that those with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis that sweated through 30 minutes of indoor cycling intervals twice a week slashed indicators of the pain causing inflammation in their blood by an average of nearly 40% after 10 weeks. They also lost weight and body fat and their stamina also improved. High intensity training releases a hormone that helps convert unhealthy white fat to calorie burning brown fat.
The University of California have also discovered a molecular switch capable of converting unhealthy white fat into healthy, energy-burning brown fat in mice. Drugs that flip this switch rapidly reduced obesity and diabetes risk factors in mice fed a high fat diet.
For those who find it impossible to exercise and are overweight this drug of the future may be the answer for them.
For me fresh air, good music and exercise is the answer.

2. If you are eating food or having drinks with the an ingredient that has the prefix ‘Phos’  such as phosphoric acid then you should reduce the amount of intake.   According to the American Journal of Kidney diseases you should make an effort to read labels and aim to reduce the amount of this mineral in your diet. (It is used as a preservative and a flavoring agent)

They believe some phosphorous is necessary but too much can harm your bones, heart, and kidneys.

Survive Crisis No 7

You are driving and about to hit something about to be hit.
I know about this one as I have hit a few Kangaroo’s in my time.

Deer-Crossing-Road

Jeff Payne a former professional race car driver and the CEO of the non-profit  firm “Drivers edge” in Las Vegas.
The three biggest objects you are likely to hit on the road is another vehicle, debris, and wildlife.
Here is advised to either avoid the accident or minimize your damage.

a. ESP – Use it. Be ready for the unexpected especially when you sense the traffic is erratic. If the car in front slams on his brakes look to see if the right lane is clear and move over. At least maneuver your vehicle to minimize the impact.
Your brain should be predicting what the surrounding drivers will do. Especially if everyone is driving like mad men. If you are totally focused you will never be distracted. The same goes for motorcycles.

b. Embrace smooth and cool – The first instinct when something appears in front of us is to hit the brakes and swerve – No No No – not a good idea. sudden moves could cause you to overcorrect lose control and make the situation worse.

c Minimize the impact. – If you cannot avoid impact, alter it. If you are the only one in the car try to angle it so the front passenger side takes the hit. If you have someone else in the car angle it so you take the hit on your side.

d. Focus on the main event. – If you come upon an object in your lane do not fixate on it. Your eyes act as your guide, if something falls off the back of a truck and you stare at it, you will for sure hit it. Look for an escape route and that is where the car will go.

e. Hit the gas – The only time you will want to accelerate is when you are about to hit a large animal. If you slam your brakes on before, say hitting a deer the front end of your car will dip and this makes it more likely that the animal will fly up over your hood and come through the windshield. Speeding up before you hit will make the front end rise and confine it to the bumper.
Aim for the rear end. If an animal bolts it does not bolt backwards. You may miss it or at the most graze it. In that case not too much damage will be done.

Saving Tips On Pumping Gas

I received this information via the internet and you may have as well.  I had a friend of mine, that is also in the business, do his research on this, and give his opinion. While I think that you may only be saving yourself cents in the dollar it is better in your pocket than the fuel companies. The last point could also save your engine and a clogged up fuel filter which of course would cost more than just a few cents.

Since I received this information the fuel price has increased even further so these tips may seem more attractive and worth the effort of putting into practice.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline… but here in California we are paying up to $3.75 to $4.10 per gallon. My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon:

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose, CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening… your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.
A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

My friends opinion

All four points are valid, and of differing impact.

  1. Temperature effect – at colder temperatures, gasoline density is greater than at higher temperatures.  Therefore, you get more molecules of gasoline per gallon at colder temperatures than hotter.  However, the temperature variation in underground tanks is very small, and you will not notice any economic difference from filling up in the morning vs. the afternoon.
  2. Filling at lower speed does reduce vaporization, since the gasoline will undergo less non-recoverable pressure drop between the pump and your tank.  There are two benefits: 1) you will get more gasoline, although again it may not be economically noticeable, and 2) you will put less hydrocarbon vapors in the atmosphere, which is good.  People would be very surprised to know how much vaporization is involved in filling their tanks.  I’ve seen it through a special camera that can “see” the clear vapors.  Now, I stay clear of the nozzle when I’m filling my car.
  3. The less gasoline in your tank, the greater the rate of evaporation, because there is a greater “air” volume available to accept hydrocarbon molecules moving from a denser phase to a lighter phase, attempting to establish equilibrium.  Therefore, you will lose less gas by not letting your tank run low.
  4. All hydrocarbon liquid tanks ultimately build a layer of sediment (and eventually have to be cleaned out).  If the gas truck is filling an underground tank that is very low, you can have the sediment stirred up and picked up in the pumping system.  Eventually, it should be caught in your fuel filter, but why load up your filter?
