  1. Global Warming – Hmmmm maybe notDid you know that NASA reported today that the amount of ice in the Antartica is growing. (Varney – Fox news)

The new Antarctic sea ice record reflects the diversity and complexity of Earth’s environments, said NASA researchers. Claire Parkinson, a senior scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, has referred to changes in sea ice coverage as a microcosm of global climate change. Just as the temperatures in some regions of the planet are colder than average, even in our warming world, Antarctic sea ice has been increasing and bucking the overall trend of ice loss.

“The planet as a whole is doing what was expected in terms of warming. Sea ice as a whole is decreasing as expected, but just like with global warming, not every location with sea ice will have a downward trend in ice extent,” Parkinson said.

Take The Challenge – Think Before You Drive

It is very easy for us to just hop into our car and pop down to the local store and get a couple of items. Not a thought about fuel, pollution, or cost in maintenance and wear and tear on the car. You may be saying to yourself – boring information, I don’t have the time to even think about it. Besides it’s too far and I am always in a hurry.

With a bit of thought, just maybe, we could have ridden a bike, even walked, or got someone else to pick it up because they were passing. We can make better choices about how we can get ourselves from A to B or how often we use our vehicles.

I think I am really sowing a seed. Because maybe next time you need something from the store you might get one of the kids to go get it or even walk there yourself. Not all of you will sit up and take notice but some of you might.

Here is a few suggestions from a website called http://1millionwomen.com.au/. This wesite was started by a group of women who are intent on making the world a better place for us all. You can sign up for this website and take up the challenge and get or give some informative information.

I personally think the Women of the World have a great power to make this world a more peaceful and beautiful place to live.

Anyway back to the subject of transport. Here are a few suggestions.

GO PUBLIC When I travel to Brisbane or I am in Sydney or I am in Houston, Texas, USA and I see bumper to bumper cars in the morning and the evening going to work, I give my head a shake and think “Why” would you do it to yourself. If there was a train or public transport why wouldn’t you take it. You can sit and relax, read, dream, talk to who ever you are sitting next to, or even find romance. Anything but be stuck in traffic every day. In some cases I know that because of the time you have to be at work it may not be possible but I can’t believe that with everyone I see on the road at least half of them could have taken public transport. If I am wrong let me know.

GROUNDED Air Travel causes a great deal of pollution and is probably the least ever mentioned by those who are supposed to be concerned about pollution. I dare to say that it should be more of a concern than cars.

Anyway, if possible, instead of traveling for business use the internet or telecommunications as much a possible. They have great web seminar opportunities now where you don’t even have to leave your office.

CABLE, NOT CAR With modern telecommunications such as internet and tele-conferenceing means we can cut out many work related car trips and flights. Video conferencing has added advantage of allowing us to see all important body language and facial expressions when speaking to colleagues all around the world.

It makes economic sense when you factor in the time and travel expense. The video chat can also be a great saving with Skype and iChat. You are able to talk to family anywhere in the world and a great way to say “Hello.”

ECONOMY DRIVE Taking care of your car and keeping up with the maintanance of your vehicle. Drive at a steady pace to cut your fuel usage. If you improve your vehicle efficiency by 10% you save 300 kilograms or more of CO2 pollution each year.

FOOTLOOSE. Ride your bike as much as possible. Walk as much as possible. Walk the children to school and to the shops if possible. Walk to the gym.

All of these suggestions not only helps with your fitness it helps with your expenses as well. It gives you time to look around and enjoy the scenery, enjoy the fresh air and is good for the soul.

Because if you don’t do different nothing will change

Australian Economy and how I see it

Well as you know I am now In Australia and this is what I have observed since I arrived here a week ago.

Reccession? I am not seeing it here. If they had one it was short lived. Houses are expensive and selling. People are spending like the word reccession never existed. Jobless rate is under 6% and interest rates are going up. So as I see it, the reccession is over here.

The reason? China and other Asian countries. They are buying as much mineral resources from this country as they possibly can. There is a lot of Asian money coming into this country.

America owes the Asian countries a lot of money. There is the difference.

Australia has a population of 22,000,000. America has a population 308,000,000. When you look at these figures and see that the distribution of wealth from resources, it is a lot higher in Australia than it would be in America. Australia has vast mineral resources so as you can see this country is not feeling the pinch like America is.

That doesn’t mean that it may not happen. If the Australian people get caught up in an economy of massive debt because they think that they will always be able to pay it, then there could be a problem.

If the American dollar deteriorates enough to affect the Chinese economy because of how much it owes China and the demand for resources falls off then Australia could be in trouble like the rest of the world.

This is how I see it. It doesnt matter what country you live in and how you think the state of the economy is, if you can reduce your debt or keep your head above water, with your finances, then you are on the right foot. I don’t think anyone can predict where this world economy is going to take us, so my thoughts are the Scout Motto “Be Prepared”. Think of the big picture.

As I always say. “If you don’t do different, Nothing will change”.

Some Ideas to Take the Stress Out of the Recession

By Lesley Voth

It appears to many that the near future of our economy does not look bright, and it’s not just the doom and gloomers that are saying so. However, on saying that, it’s not the end of the world. We still wake up to hopefully sunshine and rain, winter and summer, good days and bad. Life goes on and worrying about it does nothing to help. So the first five recession stress buster suggestions are:

1. Stop worrying. It won’t fix a thing. It is destructive.

2. Don’t stress about what you had; think about what you have. Be grateful. I know that is hard when the going gets tough.

3. Each morning wake up and take some very deep breaths, it’s very calming for the mind and body.

4. Have breakfast. That is the most important meal. You skimp other meals, but don’t skimp breakfast.

5. Now write down a plan of action for the day.

That gets the emotional stuff out of the way. If you start every day like that, you will start with a clear head, open to suggestions and opportunities. It will make each day’s challenges easier to handle and live with. Now here are seven practical ideas to take the stress out of the recession:

1. If you still have a job, start now putting a minimum of 10% of your income into an emergency fund.

2. Do not use your credit card for anything. Start paying with cash. Then each month pay off as much of your credit card’s outstanding balance as possible.

3. Keep cash on hand. If you do lose your job and no longer have credit facilities then you could be “Up the creek without a paddle”. But not if you have some saved up cash. Start putting aside any amount you can afford, even if it’s only $10 a week. You’ll be amazed how this will grow once you start. Brian Tracy calls this the Law Of Attraction.

4. DON’T invest in anything you don’t understand. In many of cases even if you do your “Due Diligence” you can still become a victim if you don’t understand the investment. Seek out advise from reputable investment companies and professionals. Don’t get “Madoffed.”

5. If you are a two-income family then bank one of your incomes. Learn now to live on one wage. Do this at least until you see the light at the end of the tunnel. This way if one of you loses a job you’re already capable of operating on just one salary.

6. If you think there is a probability that you may lose your job get started now creating a killer resume. Also, choose and coach your references now. Then if you’re faced with a layoff, you’re ready to hit the streets looking for the next “better” job.

7. If you do lose your job, go looking straight away for another one. I have observed that some people who have had good jobs and have lived a very good lifestyle think it’s going to be easy to get another. Think again, it may not be that easy in today’s economic conditions. Don’t lean on the unemployment benefit thinking that when it runs out you will then start to look. That could be a big mistake, because it’s taking people longer today to find a job.

Harry Dent Oct 2009 Economic Update

I dont like writing about negative situations in the economy because I think we get enough of it in the media and from our bureaucrats.

This Video of Harry Dent giving his opinion of the economy of the future is one that I happen to agree with.

This is the reason that I am urging people to start looking at their debt. Your job may be secure- or not. You maybe looking at a rosy future financially – maybe.

In any case I urge you to look at your lifestyle, make some adjustments start reducing your debt. This is a safety net for the future.

I personally believe that we have only just had a taste of what is to come in the way of a recession. I want American people to be prepared. To be on the upside of their finances not the down side. Start making some sacrifices now not when it is, maybe too late. Have some cash put aside.

In this video Mr Dent is talking about 2011 when things will get really tough. Suze Orman, I have heard her say that 2015 will be when things may start getting better. So even though the economist say that we are on our way to recovery I think we need to prepare ourselves if it isnt.

Lets start being Frugal, Start saving, Start cutting back on some of the extravagances of our lifestyle.
Some have already been forced to make financial adjustments, thats ok, in my opinion it is better now than later.

Anyway enough of my opinion, take a listen and make up your own mind about what he has to say.

Frugal Living is the Hip Lifestyle Today

October 19, 2009 by Heather Hoang

Everyone knows saving money is the prudent thing to do but not many actually understand why they should do it, what the benefits are because they have never sat down to think about it. Here’s why you need to keep some cash with you.

When you lose your job or want to relax in the Caribbeans, it’s quite difficult if you max out all your credit cards every single month. What are you going to do when you retire? Isn’t this reason enough to save?
You never know when you will need a bunch of cash for emergencies. Maybe it’s for a car accident, or maybe it’s for medical, but you will need to pay for something sooner or later.

Money means more choices. If you want to start a business, you can. If you want to move to another city, you also can but it’s not possible without a chunk of dough saved up.

Sometimes, changing careers is the best long term move but what if you had no savings and moving means having less salary at the beginning? Can you really make the leap if you have been living paycheck to paycheck?
Shopping is actually very time consuming. If you start saving money, you will spend less time at the mall, which means more time to do other things that are productive.

You will truly appreciate a simpler life once you decide to practice frugality. In fact, you will probably be happier once you start saving money and relying less on buying.

Do you want to retire early? Do you think it’s possible without saving money? With discipline and a plan, anyone can retire early and travel around the world while everyone else you know is still slaving away at the 9-5.
The power of knowing that you can buy anything with the money you saved is much greater than actually buying the product. It will give you added confidence, and you will find that other parts of your life will improve as well.

The rich always get richer and I know you wished you could be in that crowd. If you start saving, you will have a chance to join the party too.

Tires are expensive but you can get some discounts by using these Tire Rack coupons that’s available over there. Really, great savings I kid you not.
