  1. Global Warming – Hmmmm maybe notDid you know that NASA reported today that the amount of ice in the Antartica is growing. (Varney – Fox news)

The new Antarctic sea ice record reflects the diversity and complexity of Earth’s environments, said NASA researchers. Claire Parkinson, a senior scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, has referred to changes in sea ice coverage as a microcosm of global climate change. Just as the temperatures in some regions of the planet are colder than average, even in our warming world, Antarctic sea ice has been increasing and bucking the overall trend of ice loss.

“The planet as a whole is doing what was expected in terms of warming. Sea ice as a whole is decreasing as expected, but just like with global warming, not every location with sea ice will have a downward trend in ice extent,” Parkinson said.

1. 1.8 million cases of type 2 diabetes Americans could be prevented by 2020 if we did one simple thing. Stop drinking sugary drinks. Especially soda. Even for a lean healthy person one sugary drink a day increased risk of diabetes by 18% over 10 years according to a study in the BMJ.

2.That cinnamon has been found to be a great arsenal for shutting down the flu. Microbiologist Milton Schiffenbauer led a study that showed only cinnamon inactivated the virus Phi X 174 99.9 to 100% of the time in minutes. While this virus does not affect humans it is similar the viruses we do encounter like nasty colds, flu and even herpes. He suggests a tablespoon of cinnamon a day. Sounds good but I am thinking start off small, maybe a pinch in your coffee or a teaspoon in your smoothie, sprinkled on toast or muffin and maybe over dessert.

Einstein’s theory of relativity dictates that the closer you are to the centre of the Earth, the slower time goes – and this has been measured. At the top of Mount Everest, a year would be about 15 microsecond shorter than at sea level.

The End Of A Career

Screen Shot 2015-08-19 at 8.44.06 AM

Paulo Saraiva
This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Álvaro Múnera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer – because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”

This picture as pointed out to me is not the end of Torrero Munera career. Nor is it his quote. I went to slopes to confirm. If you like to go to the link below it will fill you in on the details. Thank you Snopes and Mr Steven Moon.

The posture shown in the photograph is not one of a torero collapsing or expressing contrition; rather, it’s a common posture of (defiance), a bit of showmanship in which the torero indicates his total domination of the bull by taking up what appears to be a dangerous position in front of the animal’s horns. (Also, the quotation that accompanies the photograph was not spoken by Múnera; it is the work of Spanish writer Antonio Gala, who was not himself a torero.)

IMG_1711

This woman, a Mother Of three
Was the responsible for the increase of the Mackie Family tree

A Grandmother,and Great,and Great great Grandmother
29 is the number and one other to come, a grandchild to my Brother

We had a reunion of all the Grandchildren bar two
Mum in the middle, So many she could only remember the name of a few

IMG_1652

My Brother Barry whom I believe would have been looking down
My Mother survived my Brother, and his memory remains with all of his Grandchildren running around

This is a photo of Mom my brother Frank and me
All her Grandchildren from us three

If you are interested I am the one with the blue shoes
Hey look at Mums face, this whole procedure did not amuse

IMG_1656

My Mom is looking pretty good though at 95, as you can see
Actually in years to come that could look like me

So Mom love you and that day was great for all of us
Lots of kids, great food, lots of laughs and not a great fuss

Without you Mom we would not be on this Planet Earth
Without you Mom all these kids, they would not have been given birth

With Respect and Love, the beautiful woman you have become
Have a great day and I wish you a Happy Mothers Day Mom

1. Research has showed the implementation of blue-colored streetlights has reduced both crime and suicides:

Glasgow, Scotland, introduced blue street lighting to improve the city’s landscape in 2000. Afterward, the number of crimes in areas illuminated in blue noticeably decreased.

The Nara, Japan, prefectural police set up blue street lights in the prefecture in 2005, and found the number of crimes decreased by about 9 percent in blue-illuminated neighborhoods. Many other areas nationwide have followed suit.

5.With over 95% of its population being overweight, the small island nation of Nauru is by far the fattest country on Earth.
Its obesity epidemic is primarily attributed to the importation of western fast food that coincided with an increased standard of living in the 20th century due to the global popularity of its phosphate exports.

the island nation makes its asphalt using a mix of ground coral and oil rather than importing sand from abroad.

Poem Friday 04/17/2015 – They Would Put Me In Jail

IMG_1240

At the races and only just in their 20’s how fabulous they look
My Mum and Dad so young and happy, great times together they took

They could never have imagined what the future could bring them both
My Dad died rather young my Mum with Dementure no sign of improvement or growth

For those loved ones who were close and have passed this way
Watch over my Mum. May she join you? She is in a place she does not want to stay

She says “I am trying to be brave but my heart hurts so much”
With a mountain of tears she sobs on my shoulder, for goodness sake Dad come get her, she needs your strong touch

Like many, in this world Dementure takes a hold
To a home they are sent – “they will take care of you she is told”.

They lose their home, their identity and in her case her dog
They give them drugs to ease the pain, so their mind is calmed into a fog

Yep my Mum she has lost her dog the one thing she holds dear
My beautiful Mum says “I never dreamt in my lifetime I would be in a place like here

Mum is now going 95 and wishes to die each day
Surely we have the right to decide for ourselves, how and which way

I feel her pain, her emptiness, her loss of pride
A home of many vacant minds, there is no place for her to hide

Why is it that the law will not bend?
Because society decides, with no quality of life, we must live right to the end?

She is now not safe, within a few weeks, to be on her own
The length of her future or the quality is surely not known

God show mercy and bring her some peace
Help her hurt go away, make it cease

She asks – “Is this purgatory for me here right now?” I don’t know
Not being a Catholic, I know you are a great person Mum so Heaven is where you will go
So when you get there give my Dad my Brother a big hug and you can from me say hello

“Can you give me a pill that could put me asleep permanently and not fail”
“Mum I so would but its illegal and they would put me in Jail”

The great pain I feel for her and the many tears I shed
I think we all need to consider for us what lies ahead

They say we choose our parents before we enter this earth
Well we should have the right to leave as we chose our birth

Well Mum I am no longer with you in person and I know you are lonely and becoming frail
Euthanasia is an illegal option, my dear Mum I would if I could but they would put me in jail
