1. Excellent idea. Will tell my Mother about it as she is always complaining about her wine being watered down by the ice cubes.

2. Place a wooden spoon over a pan to stop the water from boiling over. This is so good as I am always putting something to boil on the stove, work on my computer then forget about it and end up with a mess because I had forgotten about it

10 Ways To Have Zero Waste Christmas

dreamstime_xs_17344238-300x200

1. Send cards via Pingg.com and Smilebox.com

2. Save the cards you receive and make Christmas gift tags  for next year.

3. Instead of getting an artificial tree plant a real one in a pot. I have done this with a fir-tree for two years then had Xmas in Australia so gave it to a friend who has used it for a Xmas tree for two years and is now about 5ft tall. When they are small you can decorate it with gingerbread men, ginger stars, chocolate any pretty looking stuff.

4. Choose an ‘Experience’  present such as a meal voucher, movie tickets or an IOU for a massage or gardening, breakfast in bed.

5. Buy material Santa sacks so that they can be reused every year.

6. Buy food such as vegetables from your local market. Also there are usually lots of gift ideas from these markets as there are usually lots of talented people making such items there.

7. Freeze leftovers – visit  Foodwise.com.au. for some tasty ideas.

8. Keep gifts that you don’t have a lot of use for personally. Such as maybe you were given too many soaps or a perfume that ‘Is quite not you’ but you have a friend that would like it. Any item that you may not use but you know someone who would and then you could give it to them for an anniversary or birthday or for no special reason.

9. Always save the tissue paper. You can use that stuff all year round. I know I am always looking for it to fancy up gifts. If you are careful you can save the Xmas paper but usually one is too eager to check out the present and of course rips it in the process.

10. Make home-made Xmas decorations. You could use last years Xmas cards by cutting out the pictures and  pasting  glittery stuff on them to make them sparkle and use tinsel ribbon. Spray paint pine cones as Xmas tree decorations.

This is also good for insect bites or stings.
