Did You Know – 12/13/2017

  1. In 1904 a magazine advertisement, ran by the Cooper Underwear Company, started advertising the T-shirt not as an underwear item, but as a regular piece of clothing. The ad showed a masculine guy wearing the product, which had the following tag line: “no safety pins, no buttons, no needle, no thread”. The purpose of the ad was to show the clothing item in a new light. The company wanted to re-brand the product and to market it as a comfortable piece of clothing that doesn’t require the replacement of any buttons. The T-shirt was, thus, marketed to bachelors, who had no women around to sew back the ripped buttons on their shirts.

2.   Eating cheese in moderation is linked to a lower chance of developing heart disease or having a stroke

3.  A one dog year is not equal to 7 human years. Dogs don’t age parallel to people, they actually age more quickly at first, then slow down. Depending on their size and breed, a 1-year-old dog is about the same as a 15-year-old person a 2-year-old dog is like a 24-year-old person and every year after that is equal to about 4-6 human years

4. There is a wrapping paper set that lets you wrap a stack of presents so they look like a cheeseburger. You can purchase the sets on http://www.giftcouture.comhttp://www.giftcouture.com/product/cheeseburger-wrapping-paper

5. As of the third quarter of 2017, Facebook had 2.07 billion monthly active users. In the third quarter of 2012, the number of active Facebook users had surpassed 1 billion, making it the first social network ever to do so. Active users are those which have logged in to Facebook during the last 30 days.

  1. It does not matter what size the eyes happen to be on humans and animals alikee, longest eye lashes length are always 1/3 the width of the eyes. Apparently they are just the right length to minimize air flow over the eye-ball so it does not dry out and helps keep out the dust. Source

2. How to tell if the eggs you are about to purchase are fresh.

The number next to the expiration date, say for example 268.This is the number of days in the year (25th September) when those eggs were placed in the carton. The sell by date is say 14th November. Those eggs have been in that carton for 45 days by that date. Not so fresh in my opinion.

The example above – 211 days is July 30 so by the sell by date those eggs will have been in the carton just under a month.

3. Richard Nixon once smuggled a suitcase full of weed through the airport for Louis Armstrong.

According to Snopes .

Supposedly true Louis Armstrong was flying back from Europe, and on the same plane was
then-Congressman Richard Nixon. Nixon was apparently a fan of Louis and
they chatted throughout the flight.

When they arrived in New York, Louis said to Nixon, listen I’m an old man
and I’ve got all this stuff to carry, why don’t you carry my trumpet for
me and help me out?

And that is the story of how Richard Nixon carried Louis Armstrong’s stash
of weed through customs at the New York airport

4. Now here is a word we can all use often with some people.  If someone gives opinions on topics they know nothing about, they’re an ultracrepidarian.

noun, adjective. beyond one’s knowledge or province; pertaining to opinions given on matters beyond one’s knowledge; also written ultra-crepidarian. Word Origin. from Latin ‘beyond the sole’. Source

5.  Earth used to be covered with giant mushrooms that were 24 feet tall and three feet wide, instead of trees.

From around 420 to 350 million years ago, when land plants were still the relatively new kids on the evolutionary block and “the tallest trees stood just a few feet high,” giant spires of life poked from the Earth. “The ancient organism boasted trunks up to 24 feet (8 meters) high and as wide as three feet (one meter),” said National Geographic in 2007.  With the help of a fossil dug up in Saudi Arabia scientists finally figured out what the giant creature was: a fungus. (We think.)

The towering fungus spires would have stood out against a landscape scarce of such giants, said New Scientist in 2007.

Day 6 – 22 Pushups – 22 Days – Awareness of PTSD

Day 6 – Accomplished. The video was taken at my gym and the whole class participated. Thank you Lisa our class instructor  and thank you June for doing the video and the whole class of course. After Lisa’s class trust me it was an effort. She is hard task master.

The reason for 22 days and 22 pushups is the recognition and awareness of proven statistical evidence that there are at least 22 veterans commit suicide each day in the United States Of America and a growing number in Australia. There has been 274 suicides in Australia since 1999.

For most of us, we can not comprehend the trauma that they experience and how tolerant and supportive we must be for those who fight for our freedoms. It is not only tragic for our vets it is certainly heartbreaking for the families of these young men and women.

Today I nominate my niece DONNA EDMAN  Canberra, Australia to take the challenge.

No pressure . If you can great, if not that’s ok too.

But once you accept, you start tomorrow. The rules are simple:
* Once you are nominated your 22 days starts the following day.
* Every day you record yourself doing 22 push ups, try your best to reach 22. If that means doing assisted push ups (from your knees) or you have to stop and take a break, that is fine but try and get them all done in one video.
* Every day the push-ups must be in a different location.
* Every day you just nominate a different person.
* And finally have fun with this!

This a great way to have fun and let these courageous Men and Women who put their life on the line and those suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)  know that someone is thinking about them.

You can make donations to assist in the rehabilitation of our veterans with PTSD on the website of ‘Getheadstrong.org
