  1. Judean Date Palm was miraculously brought back to life following the chance discovery of seeds in the 2,000-year-old ruins of Masada, the male date palm tree named Methuselah, the only one of his kind, has become a father.

For thousands of years, the date palm was a staple crop in the Kingdom of Judea, as it was a source of food, shelter and shade.  Thick forests of the palms towering up to 80 feet and spreading for 7 miles covered the Jordan River valley from the Sea of Galilee in the north to the shores of the Dead Sea in the south.

So valued was the tree that it became a recognized as a symbol of good fortune in Judea.  It is chronicled in the Bible, Quran and ancient literature for its diverse powers, from an aphrodisiac to a contraceptive, and as a cure for a wide range of diseases including cancer, malaria and toothache.

2. Raynaud’s disease is a condition that turns your fingers white or blue when you are cold. Your body overreact to cold temperatures and restricts blood flow to the extremities. Apparently smaller arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas

3. According to studies too much exercise is not healthy. Your body’s Homeostasis (regulators that keep the composition of the extracellular fluids constant) collapses when you over do exercise. Moderation is important. Stress on the body produces large amounts of free radicals that causes stress like sore or strained muscles. 4. Water the giver of life – Our bodies are composed of nearly 90 percent waters using pure water for drinking and bathing is essential to our health. More than 700 pollutants most of them carcinogens often found in drinking water from municipal sources and rural wells. The exposure to our skin is significant and goes unrecognized as a health threat . Filtered water is the safest way to go. It can be a little pricy but it is the only way to give your family the highest quality water.

5. I know it’s almost winter here in the States but it will be summer sometime somewhere and there will be bugs and mosquitos. Now as you know repellents contain dangerous chemicals. It has been shown that prescription drugs in you system can combine with other compounds such as what you put on your skin and can cause brain cell death and other neurotic reactions including seizures. A natural substance which I use daily in my oil burner (it is also called Indian oil of verbena) is a great choice to keep the bugs away. You will find it at your health food store.

Weight Loss and Cold Potatoes go Hand in Hand

I know amazing isn’t it. We have been told for years that “eat potatoes and you will get fat”. Well new studies say “No”. I guess technology has just got that much better that these sort of studies come out with results that we never dreamed of.

Potatoes were imported into Europe in the 16th century. 150 years later they became the staple crop of Europe. Central and Eastern Europe now have become the biggest consumers of potatoes.

Now researchers have found that cold cooked potatoes are virtually fat free and provide an excellent source of fiber. Potatoes also provide vitamin C, vitamins B1 and B6 and are a significant source of potassium.

The central benefit of eating cold cooked potatoes is in resistant starch.
A tasteless form of fiber, resistant starch aids in weight loss due to its slow absorption rate in the small intestine.

This causes most of the dietary bulk of RS to pass as excrement. When potatoes are cooked, then cooled, resistant starch forms tight crystals. These crystals are broken up when the potato is reheated. This slow absorption also gives you the feeling of satiety for a longer period, reducing food intake.
A 2004 “Nutrition and Metabolism” study showed an increase in fat oxidation from eating the meal. It was further shown that the oxidation is sustained by a daily diet containing resistant starch, suggesting that a diet including high resistant starch foods may help you manage your weight.

Potatoes are scorned for being so high glycemic. It is true that baked Russet Burbank potatoes (noted Baked) have a GI of about 85, which is considerably higher than that of table sugar.

Among potatoes, new and some white potatoes have the lowest indexes. The reason that new potatoes have a lower GI is probably because most of the amylopectin (It is one of the two components of starch, the other being amylose.) is less branched — it is more like amylose at this immature stage.
New Research shows cooled potato resulted in a significantly lower postprandial [after meal] blood glucose and area under the glucose curve than hot potatoes.

A great way to take advantage of this, according to Professor Jennie Brand-Miller, is to make a potato salad the day before and toss it a vinaigrette dressing. “There are a couple of simple reasons for this,” she writes. “The cold storage increases the potatoes’ resistant starch content by more than a third and the acid in the vinaigrette — whether you make it with lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar — will slow stomach emptying.”

Sooooo for those who are afraid to eat cold potatoes – “Go for it” It will not make you fat.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds red potatoes, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

Directions

  1. Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until tender. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk the oil, lemon juice, herbs, vinegar, lemon peel, salt and pepper.
  2. Drain potatoes. Place in a large bowl; add onion. Drizzle with vinaigrette; toss to coat. Serve warm or chill until serving. Yield: 12 servings (3/4 cup each).

Washing Dishes With Cold Water

I thought this was funny
This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean…
 
John went to visit his 90-year-old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Saskatchewan.
After spending a great evening chatting the night away, the next morning John’s grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, “Are these plates clean?”
 
His grandfather replied, “They’re as clean as cold water can get em. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!”
 
For lunch the old man made hamburgers.
 
Again, John was concerned about the plates, as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, “Are you sure these plates are clean?”
 
Without looking up the old man said, “I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don’t you fret, I don’t want to hear another word about it!”
 
Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather’s dog started to growl, and wouldn’t let him pass.
 
John yelled and said, “Grandfather, your dog won’t let me get to my car.”
 
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted! “Coldwater, go lay down now, yah hear me!”

A Piece Of Useful Information For A Cough

This is a very helpful remedy for coughs……

Now that the cold & flu season is upon us, here’s an e-z remedy that certainly can’t hurt trying.

Vicks vapo-rub

During a lecture on essential oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils.

Their example: put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can ‘taste’ it.

Some of us have used vicks vaporub for years, but i’ve never heard of this. And don’t laugh!

It works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren’t sure why.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally),

Put vicks vaporub generously on the soles of your feet,

Cover with socks, and the heavy,

Deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many,

Many hours of relief.

Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines.

In addition, it is extremely soothing and  comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Just happened to tune in a.m. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines

In kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemicals in them.

This method of using vicks vaporub on the soles of the feet was found to be more effective

Than prescribed medicines for children at bed time. It also seems to have a soothing and calming effect

On sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant

And persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%!

She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her,

Coughing stopped in a few minutes.

So she went from every few seconds uncontrollable coughing and slept cough-free for hours every night she used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be amazed at how it works.

Try it the next time you get a bad cold.

The only thing you can lose is your cough.
