Poem Friday – You Just Don’t Know

It was Sunday,  sitting at the hotel, cigar and drink in hand
I said to David how quiet, peaceful, and beautiful this corner of the land

First of the month of October, nothing unusual, last day, tomorrow we leave
I could not have imagined the hours ahead, I could never have perceived

Played the poker machines had a good win, ‘til 11:30 or there about
Went back to the room and straight to bed as there was an early checkout

Little did I realize what was happening not far away
So unaware, asleep then, to wake up to the news, to my dismay

A crazy shooter, many injured, so many lives lost
Never to return home, so much pain for loved ones, dreams gone, what a cost.

It is a good thing that we don’t know what is ahead, nothing planned
They would not be there, singing, laughing, listening to music of the band

58 more Angels in heaven as  life left their bodies as they fell
One, you can be sure, that shooter, he is in Hell

We must learn from this… like butterflies spread your wings,  just go with the flow
Anything can happen in a moment to end your life, your dreams,  you just don’t know

Poem Friday – Nothing Like A Pill to Rid One’s Ill’s

Nothing Like A Pill To Rid One’s Ill’s
Author Lesley Voth

Do you know I have been sick in bed
Feeling lousy like someone is pounding in my head

Well that was ok I got over it in a week
Felt pretty good, fantastic so to speak

So good in fact I celebrated with a drink a cigar
Oh boy, felt so good, smooth so it was quite bazaar

That next morning I was coughing, it was not a pretty sight
Not much sleep, my chest felt like someone was sanding in there all night

Yep that flu what ever it was is back again
I guess only me, no one else to blame

Bit grumpy I am, certainly not nice to be around
Dave my husband, hiding, quite hard to be found

Now, I am a really healthy, no pills for me, sort
Well I have to tell you, my idealism right now has fallen a little short

So off to the doctors I went today
Told her I want it gone, straight away

She gave me some tablets, some killer pills
Hopefully it will quickly take care of my ills

It is a long time since I have had the flu
Makes you appreciate a healthy body that is true

So hopefully tomorrow I will be feeling good
Feeling all healthy and ready to go as I should

You can consume all those vitamins, a battle uphill
But there is nothing like the good old Anti Biotic Pill

Poem Friday – Bucket list.

MIKA

Bucket List
By Lesley Voth

Mika she is full of fun.
When she walks in the room, she shines like the sun.

In the evening I like a wine and cigar.
I enjoy this hour, I know its Bizzare.

One evening Mika walked in while enjoying my cigar and wine.
To tell me It was time to go and Dine.

Oh! she exclaimed with an accusing look and  stern tongue.
Nana you are going to get a black lung.

Then she looked at me like “Oh well” and she said,
Something so funny and came straight from her head.

Oh it doesn’t matter because you are old.
So certain, so sure, it was ok to be told.

As she walked away
She had a few more words to say.

Nana – have you done your bucket list yet.
I laughed till tears – Your grandchild hasn’t asked you that, I bet.

Mika My Grandaughter
