1. Most Australians will know this but some won’t: What is the original name of QANTAS : – Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services

2. Baking Soda, a pantry staple has now new and healthy claims. US researchers suggest baking soda can encourage the spleen to promote an anti-inflammatory environment.  It is thought to reduce the inflammation of the autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

3. Puppy Love at its best – The Arizona State University study found it was no coincidence that when puppies are at their most vulnerable is when they are most appealing to humans.  Naturally in the wild at eight weeks they are weaned from their mother and have to fend for themselves. Researchers suggest that this could explain how dogs have evolved to rely on human care.

4. Swaying the hip – It is believed that women who sway their hips while walking increase their attractiveness by 50%.

5. You are unable to see all the dots in this illusion at once. It is hard for the human eye to process peripheral information, so the brain guesses to fill in the gaps. In this case it settles on intersecting gray lines instead of the 12 black dots

1. I find this fascinating. Who knew there was so much uninhabited land in the UK.

2. 1M Hauly | $220

It doesn’t matter what the money is for—under-the-table hush-money, black market arms deals, or Bugatti purchase—the 1M Hauly is designed to carry exactly $1,000,000 worth of $100 U.S. bank notes while remaining inconspicuous at checkpoints and border crossings. Of course, the near-weightless 20L bag can also be used for normal things like clothes and tools if you haven’t yet run into a nefarious international transaction that needs completed. Made from a stronger-than-kevlar and waterproof Dyneema composite fabric, the 1M Hauly naturally reaches a discreet matte-and-crumpled finish after a few uses. Reliable YKK Uretek zippers form the bag’s closure and provide high humidity protection for the cash, while sturdy haul loops at each end fit a large gloved hand but are sized to work with straps, carabiners, or other attachments.

That poison dart frogs don’t make their own poison. They get it from eating alkaloid rich mites, ants and termites.  Other species however, that exhibit cryptic coloration have low to no amounts of toxicity, eat a much larger variety of prey.

4. 1932 the army in australia went to war against Emu’s as they were destroying the farmland. Apparently the army lost.  Australia, employed soldiers armed with Lewis guns—leading the media to adopt the name “Emu War” when referring to the incident. While a number of the birds were killed, the emu population persisted and continued to cause crop destruction.

Drink Kombucha Every Day For Great Health Results

7-benefits-of-kombucha

RECIPE

Yields: 8 cups

You need:

1 large glass/metal jar or bowl that has a wide opening. You want to avoid using a plastic jar or bowl because the chemicals in the plastic can leach into the kombucha during the fermentation period. It’s also possible that ceramic pots might cause lead to leach into the kombucha once the acid comes into contact with the ceramic glaze. Look for a big metal or glass jug/jar/bowl online or in large kitchen stores, and make sure the opening is wide enough to allow a lot of oxygen to reach the kombucha while it ferments.
1 large piece of cloth or dish towel to secure around the opening of the jar with a rubber band. It’s not recommended to use a cheese cloth since this allows particles to pass through. You can even try using an old thin cotton t-shirt or some simple cotton fabric from any textile store.
1 SCOBY disk. You will need to purchase a “SCOBY” disk and can find one either in health food stores or online at very inexpensive prices. A SCOBY disk can be vacuumed-sealed in a small pouch and shipped directly to your house for only a few dollars, while still preserving all of the active yeast ingredients.
8 cups of water (preferably filtered, but people who use tap water feel this works fine too). Some prefer using distilled water which will contain less contaminants or metals than tap water will. Distilled water is inexpensive (only like 88 cents a gallon) and can be found at most large drug or convenience stores.
1/2 cup organic cane sugar or honey. When it comes to sugar substitutions, some feel that it’s not a good idea to substitute cane sugar for another kind of sugar, honey, stevia or anything else. On the other hand some people have reported making kombucha successfully with raw honey. The quality of the sugar is important in order to avoid contaminants, so look for organic sugar. Yes, this is one of the few times we’ll tell you to use real sugar! Most of it is actually “eaten” by the yeast during the fermentation process, so there is very little sugar actually left in the recipe by the time you consume it.
4 black tea bags (preferably organic which some people have reported works better). Some people also like to use green tea, although black tea is the kind used traditionally in most cases.
1 cup of pre-made kombucha, which you can either buy or use from a previous kombucha batch that you or a friend made.
Directions:

1. Bring your water to boil in a big pot on the stovetop. Once boiling, remove from the heat and add your teabags and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

2. Allow the pot to sit and the tea to steep for about 15 minutes, then remove and discard tea bags.

3. Let the mixture cool down to room temperature (which usually takes about one hour). Once it’s cooled, add your tea mixture to your big jar/bowl. Drop in your SCOBY disk and 1 cup of pre-made kombucha.

4. Cover your jar/bowl with your cloth or thin kitchen towel, and try to keep the cloth in place by using a rubber hand or some sort of tie. You want the cloth to cover the wide opening of the jar and stay in place, but be thin enough to allow air to pass through.

5. Allow the kombucha to sit for 7–10 days depending on the flavor you’re looking for. Less time produces a weaker kombucha that tastes less sour, while a longer sitting time makes the kombucha ferment even longer and develop more taste. Some people have reported fermenting kombucha for up to a month with great results, so taste test the batch every couple of days to see if its reached the right taste and level of carbonation you’re looking for.

Unknown-2

1. Turmeric can help protect against Aluminum Toxicity.

Aluminum can destroy the endocrine system and lead to widespread hormonal imbalance (especially when it’s absorbed through the lymph system) if it accumulates beyond a certain level. It’s even been linked with breast cancer, prostate cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities are well-known. By neutralizing both chronic inflammation and oxidative stress—two of the greatest inhibitors of the body’s natural detoxification functions—turmeric helps protect against the negative effects of aluminum and other heavy metals.

3. Legend has it that tea was discovered accidentally. About  5,000 years ago when the Chinese Emperor witnessed leaves blow from a near by bush into a pot of  boiling water.

Anyway both Black and Green tea prevent the breakdown of Acetylcholine a chemical found to be lacking in the brain of those with Alzhiemer’s disease. Green tea is found to contain l-theanine an amino acid which increases the activity of dopamine and the alpha waves of the brain.

2. There is a town called nothing

Camera

Nothing was a small unincorporated settlement in eastern Mohave County, Arizona, United States with four inhabitants…The entire population ran a gas stop and garage. The gas station had a flat -bed truck selling rocks and minerals found nearby as local souvenirs. Behind the gas station, down the embankment, was a small scrap heap.

Nothing was abandoned by May 2005, and by August 2008, the gas station was beginning to collapse. An attempted revival of Nothing occurred at some time after August 2008 when Nothing was purchased by Mike Jensen. By April 2009, Jensen had opened his pizza business, run from a portable oven, with hopes of reopening the mini-mart and creating accommodations for RVs.

Anais and Billy Yeager’s film “Jesus of Malibu” was partially filmed in Nothing, Arizona.

The town sign read: “ Town of Nothing Arizona. Founded 1977. Elevation 3269ft. The staunch citizens of Nothing are full of Hope, Faith, and Believe in the work ethic. Thru-the-years-these dedicated people had faith in Nothing, hoped for Nothing, worked at Nothing, for Nothing.”

3. An Indian Airline is hiring all female flight attendants to save money on fuel.

While some airlines admit to hiring women for their sex appeal, budget carrier GoAir has told the Times of Indian will be hiring predominantly female flight attendants in future because they are 15-20 kilos lighter on average than men.

The airline estimates each extra kilo on board costs Rs3 ($0.05) per flying hour, and the new policy will save it up to $500,000 annually

5.  The Land of the Rising Sun,  for the last four years, being overweight is, technically, illegal. Not frowned upon, but illegal. Concerned about rising rates of both in a graying nation, Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women.

Hot Off The Press – Reduce Your Cancer Risk

As You know I am a Dr Oz fan, also I have 3 friends that are suffering from the attack of Cancer on their bodies, so I found this quite amazing.

I am at this minute watching Dr Oz and writing this article while the ‘Ads’ are on.

Unknown

1. There has been a study in Australia that has come up with an 82% chance of reduction in Ovarian Cancer. (One of my dear friends has this terrible cancer). This comes about by drinking at least 4 cups of Oolong tea or Green tea a day. They found the tea has chemical compounds that can destroy the cancer cell when come in contact directly.

Unknown-1

2. Liver cancer risk can be reduced by 50% by drinking at least 3 cups of coffee a day. I know amazing. Coffee has an anti oxidant and anti inflammatory compounds that will starve cancer cells so they are unable to grow. Drink your coffee black and at least 24 fluid oz a day.

Peaches on a white background

3. A Harvard study found that a certain fruit can reduce the risk of you contracting breast cancer by 40%. Compounds in PEACHES can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells and their ability to spread.
After 12 days the researchers saw that mice fed with high levels of polyphenols (found in peaches) had tumors that grew less and without much of the blood vessel formation that can help cancer cells spread to other parts of the body. The tumors in those mice also had less evidence of enzymes involved in the spread and invasion of cancer.

You need to have at least 2 servings of peaches per week, Frozen or Fresh.

Prevention is better than cure, so just make sure you take these preventative every day of your life and your chances of contracting cancer or any disease for that matter is significantly reduced.

Poem Friday – 08/23/2013 – A hug And On The Cheek Kissed

Christopher Lane

A Hug And On The Cheek Kissed
Author Lesley Voth

Its a gorgeous morning, the air is fresh, sky has turned from night to sky blue
With a deep breath and a stretch, I am glad to be alive. Arn’t you?

Not for Christopher Lane, he will not see another day
He was shot in the back in a cruel and unforgivable way

Two black boys, they were bored wanted some fun
No thought for him or the hearts they tore apart, a Mothers beautiful son

Mr President, Al Sharpton, and Mr Jackson where are you now?
You made a hero of a boy who injured and attacked a man, thats how

Mr President is it that he was white you cannot visualize him to be your son
Was it your place to comment, no, it was not but too late the damage has been done

A man has been sent into hiding cannot show his face
An excuse for black kids, to kick and punch. These kids show no grace

Yes I am angry as ALL Australians naturally will be
Yes there will be repercussions, Traveller’s less from there you will see

I cannot imagine how this would tear at ones heart, how crushed one would feel
I am sure they will cry for a life time and would find the pain hard to heal

Never met you Christopher but I know you will be missed
A wonderful memory for your Mum and Dad when you walked in the door, a hug and on the cheek kissed
