7 Foods For Better Sex And Fun

By Julie Upton, RD

If you want to put some sizzle back into your sex life, food can help you set the mood. There’s nothing better than a romantic, home-cooked dinner, featuring some R-rated foods to help turn up the heat. “There’s a growing body of evidence that some of the vitamins and components in foods can enhance sexual function and sexual experience,” says Jennifer R. Berman, MD, the director of the Berman Women’s Wellness Center, in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Aztecs referred to avocados as, ahem, testicles, because of their physical shape. But the scientific reason why avocados make sense as an aphrodisiac is that they are rich in unsaturated fats and low in saturated fat, making them good for your heart and your arteries. Anything that keeps the heart beating strong helps keep blood flowing to all the right places; in fact, men with underlying heart disease are twice as likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).

Topping my list of feisty foods, almonds have long been purported to increase passion, act as a sexual stimulant, and aid with fertility. Like asparagus (another one of my favorite sexy foods), almonds are nutrient-dense and rich in several trace minerals that are important for sexual health and reproduction, such as zinc, selenium, and vitamin E. “Zinc helps enhance libido and sexual desire,” says Dr. Berman. “We don’t really understand the mechanisms behind it, but we know it works.”

The color red is known to help stoke the fire: A 2008 study found that men find women sexier if they’re wearing red, as opposed to cool colors such as blue or green. Strawberries are also an excellent source of folic acid, a B vitamin that helps ward off birth defects in women and, according to a University of California, Berkley study, may be tied to high sperm counts in men. This Valentine’s Day, try making dark-chocolate-dipped strawberries. And while we’re on the subject, there’s a reason we give chocolate on Valentine’s Day: It’s full of libido-boosting methylxanthines.

Despite their slippery and slimy texture, oysters may be the most well-known aphrodisiac. They’re also one of the best sources of libido-boosting zinc. But other types of seafood can also act as aphrodisiacs. Oily fish—like wild salmon and herring—contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for a healthy heart.

Arugula has been heralded as an arousal aid since the first century. Today, research reveals that the trace minerals and antioxidants packed into dark, leafy greens are essential for our sexual health because they help block absorption of some of the environmental contaminants thought to negatively impact our libido.

These funny-shaped fruits have a long history of being a fertility booster, and they make an excellent aphrodisiac because they are packed with both soluble and insoluble fiber, which is important for heart health. Plus, high-fiber foods help fill you up, not out, so it’s easier to achieve that sexy bottom line—or belly.

Any member of this tropical fruit family is super-rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, and folic acid—all of which are essential for men’s reproductive health. Enjoy a romantic salad that incorporates citrus, like pink grapefruit or mandarin oranges, or use a dressing made with lemon and lime.

That was a very interesting article by  Julie, but I think I would prefer to eat what Kim Basinger is eating in the movie 9 1/2 Weeks. It looks like more fun.

If You Don’t Do Different, Nothing Will Change

I know that I repeat this a lot and some of you may be getting sick of hearing it, I know my husband is. But I love it. I think it is a profound statement. It’s a simple mind jogger. Just tell yourself: “Hey I have to do something different.”

Albert Einstein once said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

You know the reason I like those few words is in the title of this article? It’s a jolt to my, “Oh why is this not working?” The answer to that one is that I need to do something different. If I don’t, everything will just keep heading the same way.

This is one of the main reasons that I wrote my book. I was finding that I was not keeping track of my finances and I was not getting ahead. I needed to do something different otherwise I was going to end up in the “Big hole of debt” like so many others.

At the time I wrote it, about 18 months ago, America was at the beginning of a great deal of financial pain. It did not appear to me that many people were taking the situation very serious and of course they thought it would be over in six months. Not so, as we all know now.

I started doing something different for myself by making a plan, making myself more aware of what I was spending my money on, and how to stop spending on things that were not giving me pleasure. In other words to stop wasting money. I decided to do something different. Something I had never done before. I wrote my book Simply Fantastic: Living Better On Less. This book not only helped me, I know will help you, too.

While writing this book I began to be totally aware of how I was spending my money, giving money to the banks with different bank fees that I never took the time to even notice. I started watching my wastage in the home and that was only the beginning.

I believe in having the best that we can afford and as the book says, “Living better on less.”

If nothing else I hope this book gives you a few ideas of things that you can do without so that you can do the things that you really love to do.

The Strangest Secret in the World

I was on YouTube today and for some reason this video popped up out of nowhere. When this sort of thing happens I believe there is a message in it.

I have watched this video before, or something like it, but it was good to listen to it again and be reminded. If you put enough effort, thought, and passion into what you’re doing, then you will succeed at whatever you do.

So, after I watched the video this morning, I began to think again about my book and realize that the main objective of my book is to serve others. I want to see as many people as possible in this country get out of debt. To have them begin to be aware of where they are going in life. You know: “The Big Picture.”

I believe in non-conformity when it comes to being in debt. What I mean is, don’t get sucked into the material lifestyle at the expense of increasing debt and the stress that it causes. If you’re in debt now – know that you can be free from it by deliberately seeking to be debt free. My book is a guide to being aware of all the small things that make people slaves to debt and a guide to all the ways to get debt free and slash your cost of living. Once you are debt free and have a lower cost of living you will be able to enjoy life more.

Simply Fantastic: Living Better on Less is a book for people of all ages. The young generation has learned that debt is normal for most families. It should not be and it certainly can be different. Young people need to be knowledgeable about debt now, early in their lives, so they can be free of debt and learn to enjoy life debt free.

This is a great video by Earl Nightingale that I watched this morning. I want to share it with you. It teaches us just how easy life can be with a little bit of thought and effort. Watch the video The Strangest Secret in the World…
