Poem Friday – You Just Don’t Know

It was Sunday,  sitting at the hotel, cigar and drink in hand
I said to David how quiet, peaceful, and beautiful this corner of the land

First of the month of October, nothing unusual, last day, tomorrow we leave
I could not have imagined the hours ahead, I could never have perceived

Played the poker machines had a good win, ‘til 11:30 or there about
Went back to the room and straight to bed as there was an early checkout

Little did I realize what was happening not far away
So unaware, asleep then, to wake up to the news, to my dismay

A crazy shooter, many injured, so many lives lost
Never to return home, so much pain for loved ones, dreams gone, what a cost.

It is a good thing that we don’t know what is ahead, nothing planned
They would not be there, singing, laughing, listening to music of the band

58 more Angels in heaven as  life left their bodies as they fell
One, you can be sure, that shooter, he is in Hell

We must learn from this… like butterflies spread your wings,  just go with the flow
Anything can happen in a moment to end your life, your dreams,  you just don’t know

Feels Like Tears From Heaven

Bourbon Run 2010 at Four Roses Distillery

“Feels Like Tears From Heaven”

Once again I have been made very aware
The ‘Power Of Now’, when you are in presence of someone you care

You are not to know that your time with them will be the last
Be present, observe your time because each minute could be the past

We have no idea whats ahead and is a blessing
I did not know the sorrow and heartache that I would be addressing

We lost our good friend Tom on Wednesday the 19th at twilight
The medics tried to save him, they fought for hours but lost the fight

Riding home on his motorbike a car turned in front
Happened so quick, could not stop and he took the brunt

He was a gentle man, quiet, methodical, generous in all ways
We all will miss him and his loved ones will have many empty days

He, for those who did not know him had the clearest blue eye stare
We have had some fun, with a few shots of Patrón , I have even known him to fall off a chair

Recognize Tom with his white cap that never blows off, it makes us laugh
Always tied to his handle bars he has a head band scarf

Tom has ridden with us many thousands of miles
The more he rides the bigger his smiles

As I ride out the gate each day on my Motorbike
I say a small prayer, easy one that I like

‘My dear Angels keep me safe don’t let me fall’
Now I know there is one more, Tom to answer the call

I am going to be safe like the rest of us will be
Cause he will be there around us in spirit, though you won’t see

Lord we will miss him, his walk, his smile, for us it was way too soon
Hugs, his hospitality, to watch him dance with his love to a romantic tune

He just loved to ride but it came to and end that night
The Lord had a different idea, and his might is right

It was his time that night, he did not make it home by the time of seven.
It rained hard next day, when the words came from his friend to me “They feel like tears from heaven’.

Love you Tom

Not The Devils Sting

Not The Devils Sting
Author; Lesley Voth

How thankful am I for those unseen
I call them my angels, beautiful and pristine

They help me be strong, they hold me up
They help me see not an empty but a full cup

Right now I am being held beneath their wings
protecting me from some of what life brings

I know, that they know, my tears will disappear
But right now they see sadness, disappointment and fear

I need my own space so I can be me, and heal
A place on my own, so I am free to breathe, faith to feel

I so want to sing that song from deep inside
Feel joy, love, know life is a long and meaningful, genuine ride

I have made mistakes, in fact many, that is true
You reap what you sow and I guess that is why I am feeling blue

So now I hope what tomorrow will bring
Will be an angels touch not the devils sting

QUOTE: Isaac Watts

Mika my Granddaughter; You can almost see the Angels around her in sleep

Hush! my dear, lie still and slumber, Holy angels guard thy bed! Heavenly blessings without number Gently falling on thy head.
