How To Cure A Hangover

images

Overdid it? – Here are some suggestions to regain the will to live

1. Researchers from a University in Guangzhou, China tested how 57 different drinks affected the way the body metabolizes alcohol, concluding that Sprie was the most effective at eradicating the effects of the previous night.

2. Eat a big bacon and egg fry up. Eggs contain an amino acid called cysteine which breaks down acetaldehyde, just as your poor liver would. Bacon too has amino acids which will help you feel better. Also eating a greasy meal before you start drinking slows the rate at which you absorb alcohol, so now you have an excuse to eat it before and after a night out.

3. In Proof: the science of booze, science journalist Adam Rogers  says the ‘Hair of the dog that bit you’ – i.e. alcohol, may lessen a hangover’s effects though he cautions this is hypothetical. Worth a shot?

4. Drink lots of water cause you are going to be dehydrated – idiot. I know, ‘you are never going to drink again’ – heard it before! – I think those words are from  me.

Researchers followed more than 15,000 individuals from high school age in 1994 to their late twenties in 2008. After following the participants for 14 years, the study found a clear link between a satisfying childhood and a higher salary as adults. Some of the reasons the researchers believe that happier children go on to become more successful is due to their positive, outgoing attitude and their greater likelihood of getting hired, promoted and earning a higher degree.

Mixing alcohol and diet soda can make you drunker.

Why? Turns out that sugar slows down the absorption of alcohol from the stomach to the bloodstream.
“In other words, it is not that diet soda accelerates intoxication. Rather, the sugar in regular soda slows down the rate of alcohol absorption,” explains Dennis Thombs, a professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He published a paper with similar findings.
“Alcohol, consumed with a diet mixer, results in higher (BrAC) Breath Alcohol Concentrations as compared to the same amount of alcohol consumed with a sugar-sweetened mixer,” says Cecile Marczinski, a cognitive psychologist who authored the new study

Preventing Diabetes – The Fun Way

martini_glass

I read this article in the AARP Bulletin and I thought it sounded good to me so I thought I would share it with you.

I am not a diabetic in fact I can’t remember when I went to see the doctor last, but I thought anyone who is, or may be you know someone that has diabetes, would find this interesting reading. Here is the article:

Want a diet to prevent diabetes? How about a couple of cocktails, balsamic marinated pork and a cup of espresso? Those are among many foods that can help lower, type 2 diabetes risk, says the updated “Healthy Eating for Type 2 Diabetes”. The Harvard Medical School report notes that drinking coffee cuts diabetes risk by up to 42 percent and that drinking alcohol drops diabetes risk by up to 43 percent.

We all know that weight control is key to preventing or managing diabetes “but if you feel like you’re being deprived, it doesn’t work” says David Nathan,M.D., director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Diabetes Center.
You Need a diet you can live with

That means basic – but not boring – healthy eating. The American Diabetes Associations Sue McLaughlin recommends: lots of produce, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats: and minimal amounts of refined sugars, refined starches, red meat and salt.- John Briley
