Sarcasm At Its Best – Letter To A Budget Airline in Australia

Budget airlines seem to have a knack for copping flack from their passengers — but you’ve never seen a complaint quite like this before.

Passenger, Jay Mancuso from South Australia, flew low-cost carrier, Jetstar, back to Australia from Bali recently and contacted the airline with a rather unusual gripe. Here’s his hilarious letter to Jetstar on Facebook and their just as witty response.

Dear Mr & Mrs Jetstar.

Hello, my name is Jay, and you guys gave me and my beautiful new wife a lift to Bali the other week to get married. Twas a lovely occasion and I believe you also gave about 60ish of our guests a lift also. Apart from the cramped seats, all went very well.

Now, I have read with interest several attacks on budget airlines, such as yourself, in recent years. Today I’d like to become one of these people (insert eye roll here).

On Friday evening at Denpasar international airport, my wife (still getting used to that) and I checked in at your Jetstar desk. Tired and grumpy (no one likes leaving holidays) we walked through the immigration stuff and wasn’t till we were “on the other side” we noticed that we were incorrectly allocated our seats. Prior to travel, I booked and paid for extra legroom, being a big fella, in seats 1a and 1b. Alas, we were allocated 15c and 15b. What?! That’s outrageous, I thought. I continued to the gate and talked to a lovely lady there who said the seats were double booked. But they changed our seats to 2a & 2b. Oh well, not much I can do from here.

Disgruntled as we were, we walked onto the plane and a wonderful lady, Abbey, flight manager, asked us why we had our tickets changed. I explained. Abbey then moved us to front row opposite and apologised profusely.

BUT! It didn’t stop there. Abbey had the nerve to tell us that she was incredibly embarrassed about our mix up, gave us both a Jetstar comfort pack (love the toothbrush) and a warm little blanket for the journey. Wow, of all the insolence. Then, THEN just after take off, would you believe she continued her torrent of niceness, and told us to select a beverage and some food FREE of charge!!!!!

Landing in Adelaide at 6:00am she then still gave us a huge friendly smile and apologised once again.

This is not the behaviour one expects when travelling with a low cost carrier and it must stop! I expect far less of your staff and I think Abbey needs a good talking to.

So, in finishing. To dear Abbey, flight manager on board flight JQ128 ex DPS -ADL on Friday night the 25th November 2016, I salute you. Your customer service and attention to detail was exemplary. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, you turned our frowns upside down. Jetstar, give this girl a sticker of excellence. It’s conduct like this that ensure we will be flying Jetstar again. (But can we please have a Dreamliner plane for the Adelaide to DPS run?)

Thank you for your post and congratulations to you and your new Mrs!

I’m sorry to hear of the issues with your seating, but so glad Abbey could turn it around for you and make sure you had an awesome flight. We go to great lengths to try and provide passengers with excellent customer service so it’s always helpful when a customer takes the time to tell us exactly what we’re getting right.

 

It’s also really rewarding for our team to have their work recognised in such a thoughtful way. I’ve passed your comments on to Abbey and her managers and I know they’ll really appreciate your thanks.

I’m sorry if I’m just pushing it too far, but I’ve also requested for a refund to be processed back to your credit card for the cost of the extra leg room seating, just as a further gesture of goodwill (how annoying can we be?). We’ll process this within 15 business days.

Thanks again for your great post and all the best to you and your new wife. We hope to see you both on board again soon :)

They have done it again. I am sure it would attract the attention of its passengers. Most airline safety video’s are rather mundane and been repeated over and over that most passengers have their eyes fixed on their computers and never watch it. This safety video I am sure will not only inform them but be entertaining as well. Good One Air New Zealand

Airport Security Made Easy + Go Australia!!

Bit hard to concentrate on this article at the moment as one eye is on the TV  ESPN as Australia is about to Play soccer against the Netherlands for the World Cup. There is probably not much of a chance beating Netherlands as they are an experienced team where I believe our Australian team is quite young.

I  spent 4 days in Dallas catching up with my niece and her partner who were on their way to the World Cup. I am expecting to see them on TV all dressed up in support of their respective team. There will be a conflict of interest here as Donna is an Australian and Franny is from the Netherlands.

Anyway this is how the subject of Airport Security becomes an issue on my way back from Dallas. For the first time in all the traveling that I have done I got the green light and was given a PreCheck entry through security. Fantastic, I did not have to take my shoes off, no taking out iPad and laptop or bags of cosmetics out of my bag, remove belts and coats. The bag went through the X-ray machine and I just walked through the X-ray machine for body check and away I went. So quick so easy.

It just so happens I was reading in the AARP bulletin and there was an article about the fact that if you make an application to the TSA this can happen to you every time you travel.

TSA is expanding its time-saving Pre Check program. This allows certain airline passengers to use separate security lanes where they don’t need to take  all the stuff off and out of their bags.

 

Now available through nine major airlines and at nearly 120 U.S. Airports, PreCheck is being offered to people who apply as well as to randomly selected passengers ( They will have been checked when making a reservation against a terrorist watch list).

If you are in the randomly selected group there will be a PreCheck symbol on your boarding pass, which means you are heading to the fast lane.

Before December 2013 PreCheck was available only to certain folks including those wh had already been vetted trough an international program called Global Entry and frequent fliers whom airlines were allowed to invite.

 Here is what you need to do to become PreChecked Airline passenger.

1. Apply online (tsa.gov). Pay an $85 fee for the vetting process

2. Make an appointment to get fingerprinted at one of the 300 enrollment centers around the States.

3. Wait eight to 11 days to receive an email with a known Traveler number that is good for  five years.

4. Include that number in your profile when you make a reservation. You will usually be flagged as a PreChecked passenger when you fly. You can then enjoy a hassle free security screening

 

I personally think that it is worth it especially if you travel often

It is to your advantage financially if you happen to get bumped from a flight. If you are flexible with your flying time you should let the airline know. This will only happen if you have carry on luggage.

Some airlines will give you a voucher or cash. It can range from as little as $200 to $400 for domestic or $800 International. You can also request first class which will also give you extra points. If you are not in a hurry to get to your destination it is worth a try and some desperate passenger will love you for it.

I love this piece of information because I love the mornings but if they are correct I should be very skinny.

A recent study from Northwestern Medicine has found out that timing, intensity and duration of your light exposure during the day is linked to weight. In this study, researchers have found out that daily exposure to even moderately bright light in the morning can bring about a significantly lower BMI as compared to those who had light exposure later in the day. The researchers commented that this finding was independent of physical activity, caloric intake, sleep, age or season. Thus if you want to lose weight, you should aim to get more bright light between 8AM and noontime.

Are You About To Buy An Airline Ticket?

Up until now when you bought your airline ticket you got hit with other unforeseen charges after you purchased your ticket.
Not anymore. The new Federal rule is that the airlines must inform you about all the airfare charges, before you buy the ticket.

1. The airline must fully disclose all fee’s and taxes when you purchase your ticket.
2. If you get bumped your compensation will be increased.
3. Lost Bag? Your baggage fee’s will be refunded.

For your information and consideration when buying a ticket:

Southwest – Has no fee’s for the first two bags.
I notice that Southwest has an EarlyBird Check-In. They assign your boarding position in advance of general check-in time, so you don’t have to worry about it. For only $10 one-way, you get an improved boarding position and earlier access to overhead bins.
Do you need this service? I personally would begrudge paying the $10, but it maybe important to you or anyone that has a rather large carry on bag.
To me it is an unnecessary fee.

Jet Blue – Has no fee’s for the first bag.

All other airlines charge for your checked in bags.

Solution – Have a single carry on bag. It will force you to learn to pack well
