Jamie Oliver and Others Rapping the Revolution Song

Great song. It should be shared with others as it has a great message.  I so believe all Kids of today need to be aware of what they are eating from a young age. It will hold them in good stead for the rest of their lives.

soda-bubbles
1. A new study looked at whether America’s thirst for soda speeds up how the body’s cells age.
Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco used a sample of 5300 healthy adults. Dr. Elissa Epel worked on the study for 5 years.
“We think we can get away with drinking lots of soda as long as we are not gaining weight, but this suggests that there is an invisible pathway that leads to accelerated aging, regardless of weight,” said Dr. Epel.

Epel’s team discovered that in people who drank more sugar-sweetened beverages, the ends of their chromosomes, known as telomeres, were shorter.
The shorter the telomere, the less a cell can regenerate thus aging the body, and raising the risk of disease and early death.
“This finding is alarming because it suggest that soda may be aging us, in ways we are not even aware of,” said Dr. Epel.
Researchers found no link in cell aging, however, when drinking diet sodas and fruit juices.

Inspiration Can Strike At Any Age!

Age is just a number. Just because you are of a certain age doesn’t mean you are ready for the scrap heap. I wrote my book Simply Fantastic: Living Better On Less at the age of 63. I felt I had something to offer and it is selling very well which makes it even more worthwhile.

I found this list in the latest edition of the AARP Bulletin. It is a list of inventors that were of a mature age when they were struck with a bright idea.

HENRY FORD (1863-1947)
ASSEMBLY LINE, 1913

Getting the idea from the meat packing industry Henry adapted the assembly line idea to suit the motor industry. He produced masses of vehicles and by 1914 his company had 48% of the market.

Trivia: He did not believe in accountants.

JACOB SCHICK (1877-1937)
ELECTRIC RAZOR,1929

He invented the “Injector” razors but sold rights so he could concentrate on the electric idea. Schick, Dry Shaver Inc. began operating in 1930

Trivia: Accused President Franklin D. Roosevelt of taking up Canadian citizenship in 1935 to avoid income tax and inheritance laws.

IGOR SIKORSKY (1889-1972)
HELICOPTER, 1939

In 1919 six years after designing and flying the worlds first multi engine airplane in Russia, his Native country, he migrated to the USA. There he designed the helicopter and flew what would be the standard for all others.

Trivia: His first helicopter was powered by rubber bands

GEORGE OWEN SQUIER (1836-1934)
MUZAK, 1922

In 1910 he invented “Multiplexing” the simultaneous transmission of multiple signals over one line. This was the groundwork for his invention of “wired radio,” later renamed it MUZAK.

Trivia: In 1908 worked with the Wright Brothers, and became one of the world’s first airplane passengers.

PERCY L. SPENCER (1894-1970)
MICROWAVE OVEN, 1945

The idea came to him when a chocolate bar melted in his shirt pocket as he stood in front of a magnetron, the microwave tube used to power radar.

Trivia: received 150 patients but never finished elementary school.

JOHN ROBINSON PIERCE (1910-2002)
COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE, 1960

Designed the first communications balloon satellite while working at Bell Telephone Laboratories. It led to the development of Telstar 1, launched by NASA in 1962. Relayed the first live television signals by satellite.

Trivia: Wrote science fiction stories under the pseudonym J.J. Coupling.

CARL MAGEE (1872-1946)
PARKING METER. 1932

Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce asked Magee to solve problems caused by all day parkers in the business district. Thus the invention of the parking meter.

Trivia: Played a key role in exposing the Teapot Dome Bribery Scandal.
