You know I had to think about this, as for so long it has been the habit to be rude to a telemarketer and not thinking of them as humans I suppose. Some one with feelings or that they have a life that this job keeps the wolf from the door. I have never been abusive but I have been rude and hung up on them not considering how they feel.
The main occupational hazard of this job is, as you can imagine Stress. “Repetitive and intensive work, targets and tight supervision, and monitoring” are key reasons for this.
“Call scripting, excessive workloads, unfair pressure to minimise wrap times and the effect of abusive and difficult customers” also cause “emotional exhaustion”.
The alternative to this is say sorry not interested and end it with “Enjoy the rest of your shift or “have a nice day. “
“If you don’t want to buy anything, make this very clear at the start and ask to be taken off the records. That way the worker will not think there is a chance of sale.
“Be firm [but] say something nice at the end.”
I know this will be difficult for some, actually many, but think about it would you like your son or daughter be continually every day spoken to like this. Because remember some of those employees are often desperate for work and it is a way of making a living they don’t have many choices.
Remember Be firm but polite. If there is a problem just ask for the supervisor.
