It was Sunday, sitting at the hotel, cigar and drink in hand
I said to David how quiet, peaceful, and beautiful this corner of the land
First of the month of October, nothing unusual, last day, tomorrow we leave
I could not have imagined the hours ahead, I could never have perceived
Played the poker machines had a good win, ‘til 11:30 or there about
Went back to the room and straight to bed as there was an early checkout
Little did I realize what was happening not far away
So unaware, asleep then, to wake up to the news, to my dismay
A crazy shooter, many injured, so many lives lost
Never to return home, so much pain for loved ones, dreams gone, what a cost.
It is a good thing that we don’t know what is ahead, nothing planned
They would not be there, singing, laughing, listening to music of the band
58 more Angels in heaven as life left their bodies as they fell
One, you can be sure, that shooter, he is in Hell
We must learn from this… like butterflies spread your wings, just go with the flow
Anything can happen in a moment to end your life, your dreams, you just don’t know
