The work of Marie Curie, her husband, and colleagues with radioactivity was done in ignorance of its effect on human health. Marie Curie and her daughter Irene contracted leukemia, apparently induced by exposure to high levels of radioactivity.

4. THE SMELL OF FRESHLY CUT GRASS IS ACTUALLY A PLANT DISTRESS CALL, TO SIGNAL PREDATORS TO EAT THE INSECTS THAT MAY BE EATING THE PLANT.
Scientists have found that plants releases the chemical with that familiar scent as a way to alert nearby creatures who can rescue them from insect attacks. They studied the wild tobacco plant, and they noticed that they released a compound called Green Leaf Volatiles (GLV).

5. The worlds largest mall is 99% empty!
Its called the New South China Mall in Dongguan, China, and it is over 7 million square feet! The mall is so large that it has room for as many as 2,350 stores
A Chinese billionaire made rich through his business in the instant noodle industry built the mall in 2005, and since then it remains almost completely vacant. Dongguan has a population of over ten million people, yet the mall is so large it could not be constructed in the downtown and had to be moved to a suburb and can only be reached through car or bus, which many people do not have access to.
