I am sure most people would not like to do without most of our modern conveniences, but this gentleman did, so that he could live a comfortable life.
He was happy doing without and achieved the life he desired.
It does give you an example though, if you have too, how much you can save and how much debt you could reduce if you lived like this for just a while.
